Patriots Sign RB Thomas Clayton; Release Three

The New England Patriots announced the signing of free agent running back Thomas Clayton, and the release of three players, including quarterback Mike Teel.

Wide receiver Bryan Anderson and Australian punter David King were the other two players released on Friday.

Teel, a second-year quarterback from Rutgers, had been claimed off waivers from the Seattle Seahawks on May 21.

Clayton, a sixth-round pick (186th overall) out of Kansas State by the San Francisco 49ers in 2007, led the 49ers in rushing during the 2007 and 2008 pre-seasons, and spent much of his first two seasons on the 49ers' practice squad.

Clayton (5-11, 215) had four carries for 9 yards and an 11-yard reception during the 49ers' first pre-season game in 2009, but injured his knee and was placed on injured reserve.
