Patriots Place WR Torry Holt on IR

The New England Patriots announced that veteran wide receiver Torry Holt has been placed on injured reserve.

Holt is scheduled to undergo knee surgery this week, ESPN's Mike Reiss reports.

New England also waived defensive back Ross Ventrone. Wide receiver Buddy Farnham and guard Brian Simmons, a pair of undrafted rookie free agents, have been added to the roster.

A seven-time Pro Bowler, Holt was selected by the St. Louis Rams with the sixth overall pick of the 1999 NFL Draft out of North Carolina State In 173 career games, Holt has 920 receptions, which ranks him 11th all-time, and 13,382 yards, which ranks 10th all-time. Holt has 74 receiving touchdowns, and in January, was named to the NFL's All-Decade team for the 2000s.

Holt spent last season with the Jacksonville Jaguars, catching 51 passes for 722 yards. The Jaguars released Holt in February, and he was signed by the Patriots in April.

Farnham, a native of Andover, Massachusetts, spent the OTAs, mini-camp, and first week of training camp with the Patriots before being waived last Monday.
