Patriots Place CB Leigh Bodden on IR

The New England Patriots were the last team to announce their cuts down to the 75-man limit on Tuesday, and apparently it was due to a bomb that was dropped when veteran cornerback Leigh Bodden was placed on injured reserve with what's believed to be a torn rotator cuff.

Bodden, 28, started 14 of 15 games for the Patriots last season, leading the team with five interceptions and 19 pass break-ups. A free agent this off-season, Bodden re-signed with the Patriots, inking a four-year, $28.5 million contract that included $10 million in guarantees.

Bodden was projected to start opposite Darius Butler, which means first-round cornerback Devin McCourty will need to step up his game during his rookie season.

In addition to Bodden, the Patriots placed safeties Josh Barrett and Bret Lockett, and defensive lineman Darryl Richard on injured reserve. Defensive back Terrence Johnson, re-signed earlier this week, was waived.
