Patriots Claim QB Mike Teel Off Waivers

The New England Patriots have claimed quarterback Mike Teel off waivers from the Seattle Seahawks.

"Hello New England", Teel tweeted this afternoon.

Teel's agent, Neil Schwartz, has confirmed the transaction.

Teel was a three-year starter at Rutgers, and finished his college career as the Scarlet Knights all-time passing leader with 9,383 yards and 59 touchdowns.

A sixth-round pick (178th overall) in 2009, Teel (6-3, 230) completed 48.8% of his pass attempts for 238 yards, 3 touchdowns and an interception during the pre-season, beating out Jeff Rowe for the Seahawks' third quarterback job. Teel was the Seahawks' third quarterback for most of his rookie season, and was waived on Wednesday after the Seahawks signed former first-round pick J.P. Losman.

Teel is signed through the 2012 season, and joins a quarterbacks meeting room in New England that is headed by former sixth-round pick and two-time Super Bowl MVP Tom Brady, second-year quarterback Brian Hoyer, and 2010 seventh-round pick Zac Robinson.

The Patriots have not yet confirmed the transaction, but have announced the release of tight end Robbie Agnone and Jeff Rowe, the quarterback Teel beat out for a spot on Seattle's 53-man roster last summer.
