Panthers Sign S Gerald Alexander

The Carolina Panthers announced the signing of veteran safety Gerald Alexander.

A second-round pick (61st overall) out of Boise State in 2007 by the Detroit Lions, Alexander has started 30 of his 39 games in the NFL, including three games this season with the Jacksonville Jaguars, who acquired him via trade in June of 2009.

Overall, Alexander has 159 tackles and 4 interceptions during his 3+ seasons.

Wide receiver Devin Thomas has been placed on waivers to add Alexander to the 53-man roster.

In addition to signing Alexander, the Panthers signed quarterback Keith Null to their practice squad, releasing linebacker Sean Ware.
