Panthers Sign a Pair of Picks

Darin Gantt of the Rock Hill Herald/Charlotte Observer reports the Carolina Panthers have signed a pair of 2010 NFL Draft picks, reaching deals with sixth-round wide receiver David Gettis and seventh-round cornerback R.J. Stanford.
A three-year starter at Baylor, Gettis (6-3, 217) caught 116 passes for 1,555 yards and four touchdowns. Gettis earned honorable mention All-Big 12 honors after catching 52 passes for 675 yards and 3 touchdowns as a senior.
Gettis also averaged 22.5 yards on 38 kick returns, returning one kick 97 yards for a touchdown as a sophomore. Gettis ran a 4.39-second time in the 40-yard dash at his Pro Day, and posted a 34.5” vertical leap with a 10’04” broad jump at the 2010 Scouting Combine.
Stanford began his career at Utah as a running back, gaining 48 yards on 11 carries before making the move to the defensive backfield. A starter in 22 of his 51 career games, Stanford totaled 125 tackles, 4 quarterback sacks, 13 pass break-ups and an interception.
The 5-10, 183-pound Stanford was not invited to the 2010 Scouting Combine, but ran a 4.42-second time in the 40-yard dash and displayed a 37.5” vertical leap and 10’11” broad jump at Utah’s Pro Day on March 18.
Gettis and Stanford are expected to be immediate contributors to the Panthers' special teams units.
