Kraft on Brady Talks: "We're Cooking"

New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft played golf with quarterback Tom Brady over the weekend, and when asked today for a status update on the team's contract talks with Brady, said "We're cooking".

A new contract between Brady and the Patriots, and the Indianapolis Colts and Peyton Manning, make too much sense to not happen. Both are invaluable to their franchises and communities, both have earned long-term extensions, both have plenty of football left in their respective tanks.

Some may suggest that Sam Bradford's $50 million guarantee may complicate the efforts of the Patriots and Colts to re-sign their quarterbacks, but that's not necessarily the case. Matthew Stafford's $41.7 million may have been a record, but that didn't prevent Eli Manning and Philip Rivers from getting the first and third-richest quarterback contracts in NFL history, with between $35 million (Manning) to $38.2 million (Rivers) in guarantees.

If the Patriots and Colts want to sign Brady and Manning, they can. Nothing, not even the uncertainty of the 2011 season, is stopping them.
