Free agent wide receiver Koren Robinson owes $497,502 in back taxes to the state of North Carolina.
The nearly half million dollar tax bill makes Robinson the state's third-worst tax delinquent, Jim Morrill of the Charlotte Observer reports. The top two both owe over $1 million dollars.
Robinson signed a $10 million dollar contract with the Seattle Seahawks, who chose the former North Carolina State star with the ninth overall pick of the 2001 NFL Draft. Robinson last played in the NFL in 2008, when he earned $664,118 in base salary in his second stint with the Seahawks.
Robinson was slated to play for the Florida Tuskers in the UFL last fall, but was traded to the New York Sentinels, who released Robinson after he failed to show up for team meetings.
The 30-year old Robinson has a history of off-field incidents that negatively affected his NFL career. Robinson was suspended four games by the NFL's substance abuse policy in 2004, and in 2005, was arrested for drunk driving, which prompted the Seahawks to release him.
Robinson spent the 2005 season with the Minnesota Vikings, earning a trip to the Pro Bowl for his work as a kick returner. Minnesota would release Robinson the following August after Robinson was arrested after being clocked at over 100mph on his way back to the Vikings' training camp in Mankato, Minnesota. Robinson was charged with drunk driving, reckless driving, and fleeing. Robinson was sentenced to 90 days in jail, and was suspended for a year by the NFL for the repeat violation of the substance abuse policy.
After getting his personal life in order, Robinson was signed by the Green Bay Packers in 2007. Once reinstated by the NFL, Robinson caught 21 passes for 241 yards and a touchdown. Robinson was a street free agent until injuries prompted the Seahawks to sign him in October. In 12 games, all starts, Robinson caught 31 passes for 400 yards and two touchdowns, including a 90-yard score against Philadelphia.
Overall, Robinson caught 294 passes for 4,244 yards and 16 touchdowns during his 8-year NFL career.
