Jets Waive QB Kevin O'Connell

The New York Jets have placed quarterback Kevin O'Connell on waivers, Jenny Vrentas of The Star-Ledger reports.

A 2008 third-round pick (94th overall) out of San Diego State by the New England Patriots, O'Connell (6-5, 225) was the fourth quarterback on the Jets, who have apparently decided to keep Kellen Clemens as the third quarterback behind starter Mark Sanchez and back-up Mark Brunell.

O'Connell was acquired from the Detroit Lions, who had claimed him off waivers from New England last September. In two NFL games, both with the Patriots during his rookie season, O'Connell has completed 4-of-6 pass attempts for 23 yards.

O'Connell was 8-of-16 for 70 yards with a pair of interceptions this pre-season.
