Jets Cut Pro Bowl G Alan Faneca

According to Manish Mehta of the Newark Star-Ledger, the New York Jets have cut veteran left guard Alan Faneca.

Faneca (6-5, 307) signed a five-year, $40 million dollar contract with the Jets after the 2007 season. Including the three post-season games last season, Faneca started all 35 games the Jets have played the last two seasons.

A first-round pick (26th overall) out of LSU by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1998, Faneca has started 185 of his 190 games in the NFL. A nine-time Pro Bowler (2001-09) and six-time first-team All-Pro, including after the 2009 season, Faneca was named to the NFL's All-Decade team for the 2000s on January 31, 2010.

Faneca was signed through the 2012 season, with base salaries of $7.5M (2010), $7.75M (2011) and $6.75M (2012). Despite being cut, $5.25 million dollars of his 2010 base salary is guaranteed.
