Jaguars Sign WR John Matthews Off P-Squad

The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed wide receiver John Matthews off their practice squad, Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post reports.

Matthews will take the place of wide receiver Jarett Dillard, who will be placed on injured reserve with a foot injury that had ruled him "out" for the regular season-opener against the Denver Broncos.

Dillard's rookie season ended when he was placed on injured reserve with an ankle injury. During his brief career, the former fifth-round pick out of Rice University has six receptions for 106 yards

The 6-0, 197-pound Matthews caught 8 passes for 83 yards and two touchdowns for the Jaguars during the pre-season.

Matthews caught 7 passes for 85 yards during the 2009 pre-season with the Indianapolis Colts, who signed him as an undrafted free agent out of San Diego State. Matthews spent the majority of his rookie season on the Colts' practice squad, and re-signed with the Colts in February.

Jacksonville claimed Matthews off waivers in July.
