Houshmandzadeh Not Happy About Trade Rumors

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh is aware of the trade rumors involving him (and his $7 million guaranteed salary), and Eric Williams of the Tacoma News Tribune reports Houshmandzadeh is not happy about it.

"If Pete (head coach Pete Carroll) feels like that makes them better, then I’ll be somewhere else," Houshmandzadeh said after the Seahawks' pre-season finale, in which Houshmandzadeh did not play. "It’s as simple as that. I can’t control it. I’m the type of dude where it doesn’t bother me because I can’t control it, but it does bother me because nobody said anything to me, and nobody has said anything to me.

"And I’ve got a wife and kids that are coming up to Seattle, and now that’s not going to happen because of what you hear. And so I’ll just play everything by ear."

In addition to the large salary guarantee, Houshmandzadeh turns 33 this month, is coming off sports hernia surgery he delayed having in 2009 (because he was a free agent) and is coming off his least productive season in several years.

With the Seahawks intent on keeping Deion Branch, tight end John Carlson expecting to play a major role in the offense, and Mike Williams, Golden Tate, and Deon Butler emerging as solid YAC options in the passing game, Houshmandzadeh's playing time may not mesh with his salary.

"If I leave here that means I’m not wanted," said Houshmandzadeh. "Everybody wants to feel wanted. It’s doesn’t matter, but it’s like, ‘wow'. But that’s just how it goes. I’ve never been in a situation like this. I’ve never been a guy that wasn’t wanted. I was always wanted. So we’ll see."
