Giants RB Brandon Jacobs to Ask For Trade

New York Giants running back Brandon Jacobs will surely draw the ire of the National Football League for his helmet landing in the stands at Lucas Oil Stadium after he dejectedly tossed it on the sidelines.

Jacobs could have seriously injured someone, and he reportedly escalated the incident by yelling at the naturally angry crowd behind the Giants' bench.

After the game, the back-up running back was apologetic for his actions.

"I did not mean to do that and everybody who knows me knows I did not mean to do something like that," Jacobs said. "The whole world could fall down on me and I wouldn’t have done anything like that.

"I apologize to Indy, first of all, and their fans, our organization. It’s just something that happened that shouldn’t have happened."

Then Jacobs, who has not been happy since losing the starting job to Ahmad Bradshaw, lashed out at a reporter.

Vinny DiTrani of NorthJersey.com reports that Jacobs will ask the Giants to trade him.

The 6-4, 260-pound Jacobs has 52 yards on 16 carries this season, with two receptions for 21 yards. Jacobs signed a four-year, $25 million contract in 2009. If the Giants are able to find a suitor, Jacobs' new team would be on the hook for $3.22 million of his $3.65 million base salary this season, with an additional $9.75 million remaining on the final two years of the deal.
