Giants Place CB/KR Will Blackmon on IR

The New York Giants have placed cornerback/kick returner Will Blackmon on injured reserve, Mike Garafolo of The Star-Ledger reports.

Pat Hanlon of the Giants has confirmed Garafolo's always stellar reporting.

Blackmon signed with the Giants in October after being waived from Green Bay Packers' injured reserve list. In five games with the Giants, Blackmon returned 14 punts for 94 yards (6.7 per), 13 kicks for 238 yards (18.3 per), and recorded two tackles.

To replace Blackmon, the Giants have signed cornerback/return specialist Brian Witherspoon.

A former undrafted free agent from Stillman, Witherspoon (5-10, 180) averaged 23.6 yards on 80 kick returns, 10.8 yards on 26 punt returns, and posted 16 tackles in 22 games with the Jacksonville Jaguars (2008-09) and Detroit Lions (2009).
