Falcons to Release S Erik Coleman

The Atlanta Falcons are expected to release safety Erik Coleman on Tuesday, Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network reports.

A fifth-round pick (143rd overall) out of Washington State by the New York Jets in 2004, Coleman has recorded 604 tackles, 2 quarterback sacks, and 10 interceptions during his seven-year career.

Coleman has spent the past three seasons with the Atlanta Falcons, starting all 32 games between the 2008 and 2009 seasons before appearing in 12 games in a reserve role in 2010.

Coleman was scheduled to earn $3 million in 2011, the final year of his contract, after triggering a $500,000 escalator.
