Eagles Sign TE Nate Lawrie

The Philadelphia Eagles have signed tight end Nate Lawrie and released tight end Martin Rucker, Sheil Kapadia of Philly.com reports.

Lawrie, a sixth-round pick in 2004 out of Yale by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, has caught just 4 passes for 43 yards during a 26-game career that has also included stints with the New Orleans Saints (2005-06) and Cincinnati Bengals (2007-08). Lawrie had a brief stint with the Baltimore Ravens in 2008, and was most recently with the Sacramento Mountain Lions of the United Football League.

Rucker was a fourth-round pick (111th overall) by the Cleveland Browns in 2008. Rucker appeared in five games, starting one, as a rookie, catching two passes for 17 yards. After being waived by the Browns in early September last season, Rucker was added to the Eagles' practice squad.

A first-team All-American in 2007, Rucker caught 200 passes for 2,175 yards and 18 touchdowns at the University of Missouri.
