Eagles, Nate Allen Negotiating Contract

Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports the Philadelphia Eagles and Todd France, the agent for second-round safety Nate Allen, are negotiating on a contract this afternoon that would allow Allen to be on-time for training camp.

Allen was the 37th overall pick of the 2010 NFL Draft, and only two players chosen ahead of him have signed contracts. One is Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant, the other is Tampa Bay Buccaneers second-round defensive tackle Brian Price.

Price signed a four-year, $5.32 million dollar contract last week that included $3.55 million in guarantees. New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, the 42nd overall pick, signed a four-year, $4.44 million dollar contract on Sunday, which Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com reports included $2.59 million in guarantees.

That leaves a $960,000 gap in guaranteed money that needs to be closed, though Allen's deal will be far closer to Price's deal than Gronkowski's.

Eagles first-round defensive end Brandon Graham is not expected to be signed in time for today's rookie deadline, and he might not be signed before the veteran reporting date of July 29.
