Dolphins Re-Sign CB Evan Oglesby

On Tuesday, the Miami Dolphins terminated the contract of veteran cornerback Evan Oglesby, who hadn't reported to training camp due to a non-football illness. So tonight, when a cornerback showed up to Dolphins' practice wearing Ogleby's old number (#27), reporters covering the team were pondering the player's identity.

"Theres a new No. 27 out here, a cornerback", Ben Volin of the Palm Beach Post wrote.

"There is a new No. 27. It use to be Evan Oglesby. Maybe a new player, or a number switch. He's a CB," Omar Kelly of the Sun-Sentinel added.

Turns out, the new #27 is the same as the old #27, as the Dolphins re-signed Oglesby on Wednesday.

The 5-11, 182-pound Oglesby has 35 tackles in 36 career games over four seasons with the Baltimore Ravens (2005-06, 2008) and Dallas Cowboys (2007). Signed by the Dolphins last November, Oglesby shuffled on and off the 53-man roster late in the season, appearing in just one game.

In addition to re-signing Oglesby, the Dolphins "waived/injured" running back Kory Sheets and fourth-round linebacker A.J. Edds, both of whom will miss the season with injuries. Once both players clear waivers, they can be added to the Dolphins' injured reserve list.

Oglesby will compete with Jason Allen and 2010 fifth-round pick Nolan Carroll for a back-up cornerback role behind projected starters Vontae Davis and Sean Smith, and nickel corner Will Allen.
