Dolphins Officially Sign RB/KR Clifton Smith

As initially reported by ESPN Milwaukee's Jason Wilde last night, the Miami Dolphins have signed free agent running back Clifton Smith, Omar Kelly of the Sun-Sentinel reports.

To make room for Smith, the Dolphins have placed offensive tackle Joe Reitz on waivers.

Signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent out of Fresno State in 2008, Smith (5-8, 190) went to the Pro Bowl as a return specialist as a rookie after scoring two touchdowns and averaging 27.6 yards on 36 kick returns, and 14.1 yards on 23 punt returns.

Smith averaged 10.1 yards on 23 punt returns, and 29.1 yards on 31 kick returns in 2009 before going on injured reserve with a concussion. The Buccaneers released Smith on September 5 after a lackluster pre-season, during which Smith missed two weeks with knee inflammation likened to gout.
