Dolphins Agree to Terms With DL Montavious Stanley

The Miami Dolphins have agreed to terms with veteran defensive lineman Montavious Stanley.

The Miami Dolphins have agreed to terms with veteran defensive lineman Montavious Stanley, Ralph Cindrich, Stanley's agent, announced on Twitter.

A sixth-round pick (182nd overall) out of Louisville by the Dallas Cowboys in 2006, who were then coached by Dolphins president Bill Parcells, the 6-2, 308-pound Stanley has 53 tackles and 1.5 quarterback sacks during his 33-game NFL career.

Stanley split his rookie season between the Cowboys, St. Louis Rams, and Jacksonville Jaguars, totaling 4 tackles and a half-sack. Stanley started six of 14 games with the 2007 Atlanta Falcons, posting a career-high 29 tackles, before spending most of the 2008 season on the New Orleans Saints' injured reserve list.

Stanley appeared in 15 games last season in a second stint with the Jaguars, totaling 20 tackles, a quarterback sack, with three passes defensed. Stanley had re-signed with the Jaguars in March, but was released released on April 26.

The Dolphins lost nose tackle Jason Ferguson to retirement and defensive end Phillip Merling for the season to an Achilles' injury in the last week. Veteran defensive end Marques Douglas agreed to terms on Friday, and Stanley will most likely be looked as a nose tackle in Miami.

Stanley was Ferguson's back-up at nose tackle in Dallas.

In addition to Parcells, Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland, assistant director of player personnel Brian Gaine, head coach Tony Sparano, and defensive line coach Kacy Rodgers were with the Cowboys when Stanley entered the NFL.
