Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post reports that Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Cameron Sheffield has been released from the hospital.

"He's doing fine", Wilson's source said of Sheffield's condition, though there was no word of his long-term prognosis.

Sheffield injured his neck during Friday night's pre-season game against the Philadelphia Eagles after a helmet-to-helmet collision with Eagles running back Mike Bell on a three-yard pass play in the third quarter.

Sheffield (6-2, 257) was a three-year starter at defensive end at Troy, totaling 163 tackles, including 28.5 for a loss and 15 quarterback sacks. Sheffield twice earned first-team All-Sun Belt Conference honors. With the Chiefs, Sheffield has been working at outside linebacker behind starters Tamba Hali and Mike Vrabel.

The 142nd overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, Sheffield signed a four-year, $1.984 million contract that included a $194,450 roster bonus.
