Charlie Weis Being Pursued by Florida

Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Charlie Weis is reportedly being pursued for the same position at the University of Florida.

Pat Dooley of the Gainesville Sun first mentioned this possibility during his weekly radio show on Thursday, and ESPN's Chris Mortensen has confirmed that new Florida head coach Will Muschamp has contacted the Chiefs for permission to talk to Weis.

A longtime NFL coordinator, Weis made his first foray into the college coaching world when he accepted the head coaching position at the University of Notre Dame in 2005. Weis compiled a 34-25 record for the Irish, but was fired last November.

Weis joined Todd Haley's coaching staff earlier this year, and the Chiefs have improved from 25th in total offense to 9th. Kansas City has the NFL's #1-ranked rushing offense, which has helped the team improve from 31st in time of possession in 2009 to 9th this season.
