Chargers WR Vincent Jackson Enters Guilty Plea

As part of a deal with prosecutors, San Diego Chargers restricted free agent wide receiver Vincent Jackson plead guilty to knowingly driving with a suspended driver's license, Brent Schrotenboer of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

By pleading guilty, Jackson will face a fine of less than $1,000 and will receive around 80 hours of community service, and one of the two misdemeanor counts he was facing was dismissed.

"Vince just wants to get ready to play football this season, and he doesn’t want to have a lot of this legal stuff hanging over his head," said Cole Casey, Jackson's attorney.

The charges are stemming from January, when Jackson was pulled over while en route to the Chargers' facilities prior to their divisional playoff game against the New York Jets, which the Chargers lost, 17-14.

Jackson's license had been suspended after he was arrested in January 2009 for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol for a second time. Jackson was convicted of a DUI in 2006, and was on probation. Jackson plead guilty to the second DUI in February, and received four days of roadside trash pickup, five years probation, 15 days of community service and a $2,408 fine. His attorney says Jackson has completed the roadside trash pickup detail and community service already.

The NFL is reviewing Jackson's case for possible discipline under the league's substance abuse policy, Schrotenboer reports.

A restricted free agent, Jackson was tendered at the "First- and Third-Round" level, which will pay him $3.268 million dollars in 2010, a hefty increase over the $620,000 he earned in 2009, the final year of his four-year rookie contract. Jackson has yet to sign his tender.
