Chargers Sign 7th Round TE Dedrick Epps

The San Diego Chargers officially announced the signing of fourth-round safety Darrell Stuckey, as well as the signing of seventh-round tight end Dedrick Epps.

As expected, both signed four-year deals.

A 6-4, 246-pound tight end from the University of Miami, Epps was the Hurricane’s starting tight end in 2008, establishing career-highs with 22 receptions for 304 yards before a torn ACL on Christmas Eve kept him out of the team’s appearance in the Emerald Bowl.

Epps lost his starting role to Jimmy Graham, but caught 19 passes for 247 yards and three touchdowns in 2009, and continued to be a solid blocker. Epps caught 49 passes for 634 yards and six touchdowns.

Capable of playing fullback, h-back, and tight end, Epps will likely play a backup role behind perennial Pro Bowler Antonio Gates, and veterans Randy McMichael and Kris Wilson.
