Cardinals Sign DT Darnell Dockett to Contract Extension

The Arizona Cardinals called a press conference for 6:45pm ET, but it reportedly has nothing to do with disgruntled former first-round quarterback Matt Leinart.

Instead, they will announce that two-time Pro Bowl defensive lineman Darnell Dockett has been signed to a contract extension, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.

Financial terms were not disclosed, but Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com reports that it's a four-year extension.

A third-round pick (64th overall) out of Florida State in 2004, Dockett has started all but one of his 96 regular season games in the NFL, totaling 276 tackles, 26 quarterback sacks, 9 passes defensed, 4 interceptions, and six forced fumbles during his six-year career.

Signed to a three-year, $1.49 million contract as a rookie, the Cardinals wrapped Dockett up for the long-term in 2006 with a five-year, $22 million contract in 2006. Dockett went to his first Pro Bowl the following season.

Dockett has emerged as one of the NFL's premier defensive lineman, and began expressing his dissatisfaction with his contract last off-season. Dockett opted against a training camp holdout, and turned in a Pro Bowl season with 51 tackles and 7 quarterback sacks.

Dockett was scheduled to earn $3.75 million in 2010, and $4 million in 2011, the final year of his current contract.
