Caleb Campbell Headed to Lions Rookie Camp

Army 1st Lt. Caleb Campbell will participate in the Detroit Lions rookie camp this weekend, the Military Times' "After Action" blog reports.

"I’m nervous as hell," Campbell said. "It’s gonna be funny … looking out in the locker room and seeing Ndamukong Suh and these other guys."

Campbell, the 218th overall pick of the 2008 NFL Draft, had his dreams of pursuing an professional career put on hold that summer, when the Army changed its policies regarding allowing officers to pursue professional sports careers, requiring them to serve two years of active duty before they can request early release.

According to the report, Campbell is stationed in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and will graduate from the Army's BOLC II course in July, before joining a field artillery unit with the Michigan National Guard.

Campbell says he's bulked up in the last two years, and is up to 235 pounds. A safety for Army, Campbell was 223 when he was drafted in the seventh round two years ago.
