Browns Swap Running Backs

The Cleveland Browns have placed running back James Davis on waivers,'s Adam Caplan reports.

Running back Thomas Clayton was claimed off waivers from the New England Patriots to replace Davis on the 53-man roster.

A sixth-round pick (195th overall) out of Clemson by the Browns in 2009, the 5-11, 207-pound Davis has 24 yards on 13 carries in six games over the last two seasons, adding four receptions for 5 yards and a tackle on special teams.

Davis spent much of his rookie season on injured reserve with a shoulder injury, and had fallen behind Peyton Hillis and Mike Bell on the Browns' depth chart, leading to him being inactive in each of the last three weeks.

Clayton has bounced off the Patriots' roster throughout the 2010 season, most recently released on Saturday to make room for safety Sergio Brown on the 53-man roster. The 5-11, 225-pound running back was a sixth-round pick (186th overall) out of Kansas State in 2007 by the San Francisco 49ers, but has yet to appear in a regular season NFL game.
