Broncos Waive QB Tom Brandstater

Josina Anderson of FOX31 in Denver reports the Denver Broncos have released quarterback Tom Brandstater.

Brandstater, a sixth-round pick in 2009, was the Broncos' third quarterback throughout his rookie season. The 6-5, 223-pound passer from Fresno State was 26-of-46 for 298 yards with a pair of interceptions and 4 rushing yards in three games' worth of action during the 2009 pre-season.

With the selection of Tim Tebow in the first-round, Brandstater had been relegated to fourth-team reps behind starter Kyle Orton, #2 QB Brady Quinn, and Tebow during the team's Organized Team Activity sessions and mini-camps.

Brandstater, who completed 59% of his 989 attempts for 6,857 yards and 47 touchdowns at Fresno State, will now hit the waiver wire, the second 2009 sixth-round quarterback to do so in recent weeks. Former Rutgers quarterback Mike Teel was waived by the Seattle Seahawks and claimed by the New England Patriots two weeks ago.

It would not be a surprise if the Seahawks, who have the sixth position in waiver wire claims, put a bid in on Brandstater. The Seahawks have three quarterbacks on their 80-man off-season roster, and with OTA sessions resuming next week, can take a free look at an interesting QB prospect.
