Nelson Stokley, father of Denver Broncos wide receiver Brandon Stokley, passed away on Saturday after complications from Alzheimer's disease, the Associated Press reports.

Stokley was 66.

Stokley played quarterback at LSU from 1965-67, finishing his career as the school's all-time leader in passing yardage with 1,238, with 9 career touchdown passes. After his playing days were over, Stokley coached at LSU before having stints at Virginia Tech and Clemson.

Stokley was named the head football coach at Louisiana-Lafayette for the 1986 season, a position he'd hold for 13 seasons, guiding the Ragin' Cajuns to seven winning seasons. Stokley ranks second on the school's all-time wins list, and coached former NFL players Brian Mitchell, Orlando Thomas, Damon Mason, along with current Cleveland Browns quarterback Jake Delhomme and his son, Brandon, who has caught 307 passes for 4,319 yards and 34 touchdowns in an 11-year career where he's earned a pair of Super Bowl rings.
