Boston Attorney Backs Off Comments About Roethlisberger

Boston-based attorney Harry Manion is backing off comments he made earlier today to Boston sports radio station WEEI about being part of investigation into allegations against Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roehtlisberger.

"Six months ago I was retained by a client of mine and a close friend to investigate allegations against Ben Roethlisberger in a Las Vegas nightclub that were absolutely identical to this Georgia girl’s story," Manion said on the Dennis & Callahan Show.

Roethlisberger was accused of sexual assault by a 20-year old woman, which the Ocmulgee Judicial Court District Attorney Frederic Blight declined to press charges on because it couldn't be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

This afternoon, Manion sent an e-mail to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, stating that "Mr. Manion did not mean to express or imply that he has any information that Mr. Roethlisberger engaged in any illegal behavior", even though he kinda, sorta did.

"I don't have any details at all," Mr. Manion said. "I was retained by a family. It went nowhere. I have no specifics. All I know is it involved an evening with Ben Roethlisberger, and I never got any of the details. I offered it [on the radio show] only because it was such a similar situation -- a young woman at a nightclub asked, invited into a VIP area."

Loosely translated, Manion would like to avoid being sued.
