The Buffalo Bills announced that they have placed linebacker Shawne Merriman on injured reserve.

Merriman injured his calf during his first practice with the Bills, who had claimed him waivers after the San Diego Chargers released him from their injured reserve list. Merriman originally injured his calf/Achilles in the first half of a Week 3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

The three-time Pro Bowler will earn $1.73 million from the Bills for a brief, ten-minute appearance at one practice.

In addition to Merriman, linebacker Keith Ellison was also placed on injured reserve. Linebacker Thomas Williams and wide receiver Naaman Roosevelt have been signed off the team's practice squad to replace Merriman and Ellison on the 53-man roster.
