Bengals Sign K Mike Nugent

The Cincinnati Bengals announced that they have signed veteran kicker Mike Nugent to an undisclosed contract.

Nugent was a second-round pick (47th overall) out of Ohio State by the New York Jets in 2005, who hit on 75 of his 91 field goal attempts (82.4%) during his first three seasons in the National Football League. Nugent was injured in the 2008 season-opener, and was replaced by current Arizona Cardinals kicker Jay Feely.

In 2009, Nugent spent time with both the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he was 2-of-6 on field goal attempts before he was released after Week 4. Nugent spent a few weeks with the Cardinals at the end of the season while Neil Rackers, now with the Houston Texans, rehabbed an injury prior to the playoffs.

Nugent will compete with veteran Dave Rayner for the Bengals' kicking job.
