Who\'s Fooling Whom?

Tauscher's version:

"There's been some communication," Tauscher said during his weekly appearance with Steve "The Homer" True on WTLX (100.5 FM). "We're trying to get some stuff figured out. We'll see how it all plays out."

Thompson's version:

Thompson said there has been no contract talk between the Packers and Tauscher, and said there likely won't be any until he is healthy.

Thank you for the years of service and dedication. It has been great watching you play Mark. I hope your agent is shopping you around.

Regards,
TT

TT you old kidder! I remember the day you had Security march Marco and Wahle out of the locker room. The only thought in TT's mind is the $6 mil. in salary that can go to the cap, that he won't spend anyway.

This is exactly why he is such a frustration. Even when he makes the right decision (Favre) he screws it up. Tell me what would be wrong with a congenial answer to a guy who has given so much? A$$HOLE!

I think the Pack will re-sign Tausch. They probably figure there's no hurry because of his injury.

There's been no contract talk, but it's not like Tauscher is cut off from the organization now that he's a free agent. They'll be asking about his rehab and whether he wants to continue his career in GB, general stuff, but of course they aren't sitting down to bargain at this point.

CH - I know, I know. Just thought it was funny ;) Indeed, Tausch is not technically a FA yet and is still working out at the Packers' facilities.

Indeed! The funnier thing I noticed in the jsonline blog item "Brandt flies to Eagles" is the link to an old article that claims Thompson got rid of Brandt because he thought Brandt was... wait for it... "arrogant."

Wahle is partly responsible for damning the Panthers to cap hell (and he got axed there too) and Marco was a terrible signing in Dallas.

I wish both of these men well, as I was a fan, but I'm a Packer fan first. In the salary cap era the name of the game is production-per-dollar.

TT is quite the tool, eh? Once again, he is trying to make a decision that benefits the team rather than satisfying the populist boobs. I swear, when I read some of the dreck about how players should be rewarded for past service rather than future production, I believe we Packer fans actually deserved the teams of the '70's and 80's. Don't get me wrong, Tauscher has been a great player and I hope he can some back. I just don't see the evil in TT's quote.

Jdog - Didn't mean to imply any evil. Just thought it was interesting, esp after the blogosphere ran with "Tauscher and Packers in talks" meme that came out of that WSJ piece.

Tauscher is gone, my guess is that they are praying Clifton gets beat out as well and they don't have to pay him $6mil.

The problem is that our tackles are dinosaurs....thats why the ZBS is not working as well as it should and why we can't run screen passes. Quite simply our tackles cannot get out of their own way, which works quite well when you are pass blocking...but that's it.

I like McCarthy, but its inane that he has not made permanent moves to solidify the line by telling which guys are playing which positions, and then leaving them there! IMO, Barbre is our next LT, but he needs to play it. The guy has unbelievable feet and that's why they drafted him. So play him there. Clifton was horrible this year, absolute embarrassment. Tauscher, nice guy, has to go. We have had some of our best years with younger guys at both the tackles.

As for Brandt, my understanding (Ted and I do not correspond however) is that Ted objected to him speaking to the media and Andrew objected to his job changing to not speaking to the media. This makes a lot of sense that he would leave if you read his stuff, he is very articulate and probably needed that positive creative interaction to enjoy his otherwise hum drum job (salary capologist and chief accountant for the negotiating team_). Brandt has never said a negative thing about Thompson or the Packers, very very classy guy.

bucks - agree on Barbre. I know many of the local media guys are just as flumoxed as to how he went from being in the mix for a starting job at the beginning of training camp to not being able to get on the field over the likes of Tony Moll (which is a joke)
