The Packers Start Cracking Down on Season Ticket Resellers

The Green Bay Packers have announced that they will continue their controversial tactic for non-renewal of season tickets. This scheme has been introduced over the last few years to ensure that tickets are purchased by fans who intend to use them and not resell.

The waiting list for the Green Bay Packers' home games is renowned. The team has always aimed to keep prices fair, also allowing tickets to be gifted to family members should a holder pass away. These legacies have meant tickets are in high demand, so much so that they are often resold. To keep their home advantage, the Packers are continuing to crack down on those who have tickets but don’t attend games.

Letters to Fans About Renewals

Invoices are being sent out to those who held season tickets in the previous season. This will include pricing and a schedule of next season's home games. Amongst these will be stringent guidelines on how these tickets can be used, particularly in the event of an owner's absence.

Many people believe this is unfair, stating that those who buy a ticket should be allowed to do what they want with it. Yet at the heart of this is the debate over ticket reselling. Over the last few years, the club has been declining tickets to those whose sole purpose is to sell their seats.

The idea is that for those who can not attend, tickets should be given to family, friends and colleagues. They should not be offered for sale. Aaron Popkey, the Packers’ director of public affairs, stated that “What we’re saying is if you repeatedly sell those tickets in that way, or through a broker, either indirectly or directly, those are the situations that we are addressing through this non-renewal program.”

For sportsbooks, the result of this is a huge homefield advantage which is often applied to odds. Lines and odds set by a sportsbooks in Michigan often offer insight into how the Packers’ matchups are viewed heading into key games. The Packers crowd is a key consideration made, and one which betters should take into account when making wagers based on t he Packers along with form and current roster.

The Packers Season Ticket Waiting List

The Green Bay Packers' waiting list is famous for its length. This has always been the case. It was started after the team began selling out home games in the sixties. By the early 1980s, those on the waiting list numbered 73,256. Each of these people is able to buy up to four tickets, bringing family and friends with them.

In 2013, Lambeau Field was expanded. Allowing more people in then cut a huge chunk off the waiting list, though it still existed and began to grow once again. Some people have reported movements of only 12,491 places up the list in a decade.

In the 2025 season, the Packers' average ticket prices increased between $7 and $21. This continued to allow a wide range of people to attend matches. They also increased pre-season ticket prices. Usually, half the cost of a regular game, they increased between $3 and $11.

This was in a year when overall ticket prices for the NFL decreased. The highest average ticket price was $475 with the Philadelphia Eagles. The Packers ranked third with $418, and the Cleveland Browns hit the bottom spot with an average of $158.

The team has a backlog of those waiting for season tickets. Clearing this is not really in the team's interest. Selling out every game is almost a given, and with a stadium at capacity, the kudos of having a legendary waiting list is a bonus. Yet when a few thousand tickets are not renewed, the team has stated it can go to the waiting list and add around 1000 people who have been waiting for season tickets. A more precise number of those on the list is expected to currently be around 155,000, according to some sources. They also added that some of these have been waiting decades, though how true this is remains to be seen.
