Good: Mayfield played for the other side.
Bad: Run Defense.
Ugly: Rodgers coming up small in the last 10 minutes. Once he gets his records and pads his stats to get his MVP, he disappears.

Really!!! The fact that he’s playing through an injury, with a patchwork OL, without throwing a pick and has a passer rating well over 100 in each game means nothing.

He’s playing so badly that we have the best record in the league. As long as he is padding the win stats there is no reason for complaints about Rodgers.

If we win the rest of our games all the way to the SB just like we beat the Browns tonight you will still be upset about Rodgers padding his stats. I’ll take this win, this way every game including the SB with no problem. Thanks, Since ‘61

I know you have a medical background, Since'61.
I've had a few broken toes in my days. My friends have had a few broken toes over the years. My father, who slammed his foot into something seemingly every year, had annual broken toes.

What jumped out to me the day that Rodgers took off his sock to prove to the media he didn't have Covid toe.. and then announced his "much more serious than turf toe" injury was a broken pinky toe.. what that there was zero discoloration in his foot or toes.

Maybe you've seen it, but in my experience of seeing dozens of broken toes, every one of them has been so darkly bruised as to be almost entirely deep purple/green/black, and they stay that way for months before the bruise subsides.

Whatever Rodgers' injury to his foot is, I don't believe it's that bad based on the observation of his foot that day. If it is injured, he sure does have a serious case of selective wincing out there during game day.

I've been watching this guy "massage" the truth to paint distorted pictured for too many years. This is a ploy to attempt to portray himself as a warrior ala Favre. I'm sorry, I just don't believe this liar any longer.

"in my experience of seeing dozens of broken toes, every one of them has been so darkly bruised as to be almost entirely deep purple/green/black, and they stay that way for months before the bruise subsides."

HMMMM....You know Oppy, that's an excellent point and one I should have caught myself. Now I'm not saying Rodgers is lying about his toe, I believe he injured it. But I've broken my right "Ring Toe" (first toe to the left of the pinky toe) THREE different times and EACH time at least 4/5ths of the ENTIRE toe was a DARK black and blue and was for many weeks.

Disagree that a broken toe is always, and even usually discolored. I'm 2 for 2. No discoloration. It entirely depends on the micro blood vessels severed in any injury....thus the flow of blood around service tissue thus the discoloration. But the whole comment is back to drama queen, conspiracy and hardly even worth a comment. A fan is going to bring this speculation of lying after Rodgers plays a good game, irregardless of an injury? You move to the "hater" column in fandom. Good luck next year with a Rodgers-less team, and I'll await your glowing comments.

All i'm saying is, I've literally seen dozen of broken toes, and they've all been black. Also, Rodgers is a liar. Yeah, I doubt Rodgers because I've been listening to him twist the truth for 7 years running. Maybe he legitimately has a broken toe that's 'significantly worse than turf toe', but my personal experience and Rodgers' track record say otherwise to me.

I'm not naive that QB play is going to take a dip when Rodgers is gone. That being said, I believe a lot of Packers fans are naive about the ability for the Packers to keep Rodgers at this point and field a competitive team around him. I've listened to the same jack-rods who are saying the Packers need to keep Rodgers at all costs because he's the only reason the Packers are capable of winning- cry and whine year in and year out that the Packers have never been able to give Rodgers the help he needs to get back the superbowl.

a 40 year old QB is not the future. I'm looking for the next 15 years. I actually like the building process.

Call me a hater all you like. I'm on the record as saying I can't stand the guy.. as well as stating he's the most talented QB I've ever seen throw a football. I'm honest about how I feel about the guy.

Oppy, I'm with you100%.
I don't believe that Aaron Rodgers has a broken toe either, based on the pictures that I have seen.
I think he's doing his woe is me act looking for attention.
I also think he's going to add to this story over the next two weeks.
He needs to keep the team and the Packers fans on the edge of their seats, that gives him the power that he craves.

I don't know about a need for power and keeping packers fans on the edge of their seats, but I think the injury narrative boosts his odds of trying to grab an MVP and adds to his 'legend'.

Oppy My medical background is very limitedespecially by today’s standards. Yes, I was a medic in the Army. That was 50 years ago. And I was trained in first aid, dress a wound and get our guys to a chopper so the real docs could save him. My son and daughter-in-law are both doctors but I don’t actually see their work.

As for Rodger’s toe. I don’t know if it is a break or not but I believe that he has an injury. Why? Because he has been very limited in practice. There are many things we can say about Rodgers and I myself don’t like how he handled his “immunized” situation and don’t trust much of what he says.
However, he has always been dedicated to practicing and working hard. I don’t believe that he would miss practice if he didn’t have an actual injury.

I also know what it’s like to be stepped on while playing. Even without a broken toe it can hurt like hell. I posted that he is playing through an injury because I believe that’s the case. Whether it’s broken or badly bruised I don’t know.

What I do know is that he is playing brilliantly. For me, that’s all that matters whether he is injured or not. What he says or does off the field is window dressing and grist for the media mill. It may be unethical or stupid but it’s not criminal. So I stay focused on what he does on the field and on the field he is the best I’ve seen and probably ever will see.
Thanks, Since ‘61

Yeah, because that 3 and out where we called an end around that went for -9 and a tipped pass at the line that led to 3rd and 19 was Rodgers' fault, the ensuing drive that consisted of 3 consecutive running plays without our game finishing back in there was Rodgers' fault and to top it all off when he delivered two catchable balls, one that likely would've sealed the game but both were dropped by ADAMS OF ALL PEOPLE, were definitely Rodgers' fault. Not even close. The offense came up short, the game plan came up short, Lafleur came up short. Rodgers did what he needed to do. They went conservative in an attempt to "not lose the game" reminiscent of the MM days. That was not on Rodgers.

I think that takes losing a couple times when they play turtle.

That hasn't happened this year, they have held on and won in spite of themselves.

The Good:
** A “W” in Lambeau and holding on to #1 seed by the skin of our teeth.
** No blowouts by Special Teams.
** Crosby was solid and may have shaken off his slump.
** The pickup of Douglas from the drive by garage sale continues to pay dividends.

The Bad
** The Defense has regressed 3 weeks straight
** The Pinky toe took it on the chin and definitely affected A.R.’s play
** Aaron Jones, limping on the sidelines in the 4th quarter. (hoping it’s nothing serious.)
** Against the run the defensive line and linebackers were on their heels all game.

The Ugly
** Defensive line and linbackers MIA against the rush.
** Stats:
Time of possession goes to CLE 31:51 to 28:19
Total Yards CLE 408 to 311
Rushing CLE 219 to 109
And the real kick in the gut, First Downs CLE 28 to 19
Third Down Conversions CLE 7 of 12 to our 3 of 10. 3 of 10? Are you kidding me?!?

The Wrap:
Merry Christmas GB fans, this win was a GIFT, no other way to put it. This was also a shot across the bow and thinking that allowing Avg 9 yards per rush will get us deep in the playoffs is delusional. Defense peeked 4 weeks ago and has regressed since, we had better right the ship or this run of luck will run out.

Help is not on the way...

Z is not what this defense needs, he is the poster child for losing contain on the edge. We have enough of that now. He may help in allowing more rotation to keep Preston and Gary fresh.

Jaire will help, but the guys currently playing corner are doing pretty well when not in absurdly soft zone coverage. He will need to play vs the barneys and lol's or I doubt his timing will be any good for a playoff run.

It is looking like we're gonna have to boogie with who brung us to this dance. Time for a come-to-Jesus talk with the current defensive players and a return to mid-season form for all, or its gonna be a short run.

Regular season is much different than the playoffs.
In the playoffs your weaknesses will be exposed , game planned for, and exploited by the other side. In the playoffs you cannot hide from your weaknesses.
No points early, playing from behind early can end your season quickly. Especially against teams who are solid, well coached and do not turn the ball over. Tampa comes to mind.

So, are you saying that teams don’t game plan to exploit weaknesses in the regular season? Because I don’t think that’s true.

In the playoffs, your STRENGTHS have to show up. For example, if you are good at protecting the ball and executing in the redzone, and then they go out and turn it over a couple times and fail in the redzone…..you’re gonna lose.

In the first half, the O had short fields, so fewer yards. Big plays => fewer first downs. In the second half, they were in MM play-not-to-lose mode. That's what those stats show.

Truth is that the D has been missing since the Bears game. Ravens and Browns used the same playbook as Chicago did. Run if you can but throw down the middle and you will complete big passes. There is a huge hole that the DC has to fix in the middle coverage of the field. All I was saying the whole game Saturday was another open WR or TE in the middle. Fact is that they were also big plays on 3rd and long. No coverage just wide open.

DC should have blitzed more also. Every time they did (which was very few) Baker couldn't hit crap! If you noticed, the DB's and Safeties were looking at each other like "wasn't that you that was suppose to cover him". Come on man. Way to many screw ups with middle coverage the last 3 games.

If you take the turn overs away from the opposing teams (and there were some dumb plays they did) we could of lost all three of our last games.

I just don't understand why. He was very good in coverage last year. He just looks absolutely lost this year. He's not utilizing his speed to jump routes and he's missing tackles. I think he's having a slump cause he's trapped in his head. I've seen it before. He's got the tangibles but the defense is out of sync and he is one of the biggest reasons.

The Bad: Our run defense was terrible. Poor tackling.
The Ugly: The officials probably saved the win by not calling holding on Douglas on his last pick of the game.

Our defense is barely hanging on at the end of our last few games. They are not as sharp as they were prior to the Vikings game at Minn.
Rodgers injury is affecting his play late in games. We need that 1st week bye so he can heal up. GPG!

Johnblood you make a good point about the play calling. The reverse to ESB was ridiculous. Just handoff to Dillon. Even 2-3 yards and a cloud of dust is better than losing 10 yards.

Just chew up clock and run plays that go forwards and not backwards. Thanks, Since ‘61

The good: Special teams
Last week I said I'll call them Stupid Teams until they prove otherwise, and I really didn't see any howlers tonight. No muffed returns, no missed FGs or PATs, no big returns given away, it really was a pleasantly uneventful night for once! So I will go back to calling them Special Teams (for now).

The bad & The Ugly: Run D / Mental Errors
Anytime you put something on tape like caving to the run game -- even when the Packers knew it was coming -- is something our opponents will take note of. It's a copycat league. That was disappointing to see. I think Tom Silverstein put it best: this game felt like Mike Pettine was our coordinator again.

The defense in general just seems to be trending in the wrong direction, as Tom Silverstein wrote:

"Up until a couple of weeks ago, new coordinator Joe Barry’s defense had gone five straight games without giving up 100 yards rushing, beating two surefire playoff teams (Arizona, Los Angeles Rams) within that span."

"Then, it gave up 137 yards against Chicago and 143 against Baltimore, and then 219 to the Browns, even though they were playing against a quarterback who tested out of the COVID-19 protocol and flew to the game on a private plane Saturday morning and without starting left tackle Jedrick Wills and center JC Tretter due to COVID."

If any other NFL starting QB was playing tonight aside from Baker Midfield, then the Packers lose this game plain and simple. What was even more frustrating was that Kenny Clark was back from COVID. Now, maybe he wasn't 100% after battling the virus, I don't know -- but they clearly were not themselves and were getting gashed.

The Good (and rather Great) = Rasul Douglas, Aaron Rodgers' first half performance.

The Bad = The run defense. It reminded me of the way the Niners destroyed the Pack two years ago. Eric Stokes playing too far off in many situations. Matt LaFleur's play calling in the second half. Green Bay's offense was ragged in the second half and I disagree with Nagler's support for the deep sideline throw to Adams that glanced off his hands. That was a case of the Packers being too reckless in their play calling. Totally unnecessary however exciting it was too watch.

The Ugly = The Packers' decision to throw on the drive before the 2 minute warning. The incomplete pass stopped the clock and gave the Browns a free time out in effect. Luckily another interception from the abysmal Mayfield stopped Cleveland's final drive.

(And, changing the format to include the other team) The Browns' constant whining about everything. Especially Baker Mayfield on every other play (although someone did grab his face mask briefly on one play although the bastard deserved it).

THE BEAUTIFUL = The Packers are 12 - 3 and know how to win although the team still doesn't know how to close out games forcefully.

I don't understand why Stokes plays so far off either. The guy has 4.2 speed and NOBODY on the Browns is running by him. Stokes is the one guy (Alexander too) who can play close to the LOS, get his jam, and still be able to stay with his receiver.

The bad - Run defense. Not being able to put the game away in the second half and allowing to many 3rd and long conversions.

The ugly - Run defense. No killer instinct to put the game away when getting a lead. Bad challenges. Aikman and his lousy commentating!! He's horrible!!

The defense played horrible, no fire, no intensity, no urgency! No 'Killer' instinct!
The picks were Gifts from Mayfield, and the Refs gave us the ultimate gift on the no-call PI that ended the game with the final interception.
Suddenly, MLF was doing his best Mike McCarthy Dance step in the 4th quarter with his Run-two-three-kick, run-two-three-kick playcalling.
We can't blame the Special Teams for 'keeping them in the game" this week!
The Pack should have destroyed the Browns, and instead they lucked out by the skin of their teeth. Sad!

The Good - 12 and 3 and we are far from playing our best football. Very well could be 10 and 5, or worse but we are not, it is what it is. The offense continues to score against some better defensive teams, putting just enough points on the board to cover up for a host of other issues. If and when the O gets it together, and hopefully on a run at that I don’t believe anyone can beat us all the way to the Lombardi

The Bad - if the offensive side fails to step up and over it is hard for me to imagine much beyond a one and done or a repeat of the past two years come playoffs. Our defense may be playing their best and it just sucks. The same players who are on the field with the same patterns of mistakes. A backup QB and Baker should have beat us, hard to imagine Matt, Dak and TB not coming out with a W if they are given the same opportunity unless something with the D pivots.

The Ugly - leaving this blank for now, what is hard to watch now may turn into something altogether different during a stretch run.

Happy New Year to all!

To whomever votes a “thumbs down” seemingly anytime our defense and especially our secondary gets called out - I just gave myself a “thumbs down” so you can feel better without actually contributing to the conversation.. Call it a belated Christmas present much along the likes of Baker and the Zebras yesterday.

Cheers,

I think whoever reflexively downvotes critics of the Packer D is just a homer. No use complaining; there will always be homers on a fan site.

In any case. there are more important things to worry about -- like the Packer D.

The Good: Aaron Rodgers driving Packers up and down the field in 1st half.
The Bad: surprisingly Davante dropping a couple of passes that might have sealed the “W”.
The Ugly: The run defense was atrocious. It is fair to say, Cleveland has a very good back (Chubb) and O-line, but not holding the edge time after time coupled with two hand touch tackling is a bad combination. This needs to get fixed.

All that being said, these are weaknesses that can be fixed by good coaching. Team needs to get back to work.

Good: 4 Christmas presents from Baker
Bad: a Lump of coal to the defense which was indefensible
Ugly: the officials who need to be returned as they were broken

Merry Christmas Packer Fans
Good: Mayfield was convinced our secondary sucked and he could pass like crazy. He would have been right if two major holds were called. we got lucky. He didn't.

Bad: Run d not so good. Punter kicks line drives at times no st could cover. Play calling a mystery. May be due to Rodgers toe?

Ugly: I see more negative opinions of Stokes growing on this board so I know it's not me. I thought maybe he just isn't bright enough to play, I think it's that plus he seems lazy. Yesterday our defender was trying to make a tackle and Stokes was three yards away and stood there and watched rather then jump in and help. Hey last week if Savage hadn't deflected the two point conversion, the receiver was in place to make easy catch with good old Stokes two yards back watching. I do not see development here after 15 weeks.

I think as a fan base we are rather entitled. This team is 12-3 while missing a substantial portion of its starting roster. Try to be grateful and optimistic. This team is pretty damn good. Let’s not be too critical. Happy Holidays Pack Nation

In 8 possessions, we scored 3 TDs and a FG. That’s about a 44% success rate for the offense.
In 8 possessions, Cleveland scored 3 TDs and a FG.. Thats a 56% success rate for the defense.

The offense scored below their average.
The defense held Cleveland under the league average.

And the narrative is about poor defense.

I would describe the defense as OPPORTUNISTIC AND BEND DINT BREAK. When you have AR12, you don’t need to be world beaters IMO. They’re pretty stout situationally but I agree. They need to stiffen up for a deep playoff run

Agreed. You can say that the defense made the plays when it needed to. The Packer O didn't do its job in the 2nd half.

The D did NOT make the plays when they needed to. Mayfield helped a lot however, the ref made the call that won the game in the 4th qtr. Otherwise Cleveland wins.

Nonsense. Did they win the game or not? It took some timely sacks, a successful defense on a 2pt play and turnovers to do it.

If you watched the whole game you know the refs were letting them play. Teams have to play the game the refs are calling, not some Vikings fan ideal of what a perfectly reffed game should be.

The Browns are a good running team and ran our guts into the ground. Our offense needs to run more with Dillon to give them a rest against teams that are having success. Our D was on the field a lot with little help from our Offense especially the second half. 3 and outs kill your defense. It would be nice to find someone to put next to Clark for the long haul. If JA can get back healthy our secondary will be better in the passing game.

Good: Win

Bad: MLF play calling in the 2nd half, 4Q Davante Adams.

OK: Packer special Teams

Ugly: Baker Mayfield.

The Good: As always another win! Special Teams looked a little more special please keep it up. Douglas once again a ball-hawking thief on the gridiron. The crowd seemed ramped up from what I could tell from the tele.

The Bad: The offense stalling again when we needed to put the Browns away. Seemed like we try and get too cute instead of running the ball.

The Ugly- Our defense, with the exception of Douglas's interceptions. No adjustments. Run defense got run on big time and can't figure out why we are seeing Pettine's soft defense instead of being aggressive against their receivers.

When in hell will Joe Barry play press coverage with the D backs? This 10 + yards off the ball coverage invites opponents first downs. This is the same crap Pettine ran last year. When will MLF do something about it?

Bary is probably using Petines play book since he never coached D before he needs something to go on. I agree, prevent d is great when you have a lead at the end of a game and want to protect it but this D is his calling is B and S. No extra pass rush, secondary giving up short passes keeping then on the field and rodges and company off the field.

The good: COMPETENT Special Teams play on Christmas after a whole year of Nightmares Before Christmas.
The bad AND the ugly: run defense getting shredded (again) by an (admittedly) great back. Gotta get this fixed cause Kamara is Koming to town Sunday night.
