The Brilliance That Is Mrs. Nagler

My wife, bless her, made a brilliant observation during the game that I wanted to share.

Final drive of the first half, after the inept display of officiating that robbed the Packers of their second timeout because the referee couldn't count to 12, Favre hit Greg Jennings on a deep-in route on the right hash-mark and raced the team up to the line to spike the ball, thereby saving the teams' final timeout for two shots at the touchdown before the half. A true master of the two-minute drill at the height of his game.

Too bad his Head Coach got in the way.

Yes, as we all saw, McCarthy called the final timeout before Brett could get the team set and the ball spiked, sending Favre into a very animated debate with his coach. And it was this display that prompted the following exchange on the Nagler sofa this past Sunday evening:

Me: Wow, Brett is pissed. But he's right, McCarthy just killed the touchdown.

Most Brilliant Wife Ever: Well, he's been doing it longer.

Me: That's absolutely right honey. I'm going to blog about that!

MBWE: Well, it's true.

While the true gravitas of her brilliance is not displayed by the printed word, I assure you that she is quite astute and her simple statement really brought home the fact that Favre no doubt knows much more about managing the ends of games and the two-minute drill in general, more than any coach he could possibly have, because he's been doing it for 16 years. McCarthy's been doing it for one and a half. And after settling for the field-goal, it has to hurt even more knowing the 4 points that were never tried for would have made the final drive of the game a completely different affair, with the Packers driving for a field-goal rather than a touchdown.
