Sending Out the Call (Again)

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

It's time to bench Nick Barnett.

Desmond Bishop could not possibly be any worse than the pathetic display for what is passing as middle linebacker play in Green Bay this season. Maybe a benching will shake Barnett from whatever malaise has a grip on him this season. It is just painful watching him play football right now. And nothing could be more embarrassing than his jumping on Lendale White after the play is long over and proceed to push White into the ground for several seconds - even though the whistle had blown 30 seconds previous.

He is just not right and has become a liability. Give Bishop a shot. He could not possibly be any worse and may just be a better option at this point.

How about moving Hawk to the middle and starting Chillar?

Hell, Keith, at this point I'd put YOU in there. Barnett is just awful this year.

The only problem I'd have with Chillar in the base is in the run game - this defense is soft as it is against the run. Bishop brings the lumber. Chillar is more of a DB in a linebackers body. He can tackle however, unlike Barnett this season...

I love the idea of Bishop. During the spring I thought he would start (before they acquired Chillar). I'm not a Poppinga guy. I have been a Barnett guy but clearly something is wrong. Time to make a change. And for the record, I think it's fine to sit a star player when you see malaise. I like what we did with Hawk/Chillar (though it was dictated by injury).

I think Barnett may be finished (as crazy as it sounds.) I think he knows it too. How else do you describe how chippy he has been all season?

What happened to Barnett? He used to be a beast.

The problem starts up front with the D-line. None of them necessitate a double team, and opponenets are free to go to the secong level to block. Barnett needs to able to roam free and use his speed which he can't do with two guards blocking him.

So Pickett demanded a double team last year but not this year? People like to point to Corey Williams not being there, but he wasn't even starting before Jolly got hurt. The line is ok - not great - but Barnett is free enough to make plays - he is simply not making them.
