Really? I can't think of anything more grass roots than this. We just put together a publication without a single advertisement in it, that's about the opposite of corporate as it gets.

Don't get me wrong. I'd be happy if advertisers were knocking down our door. Nobody's going to turn down money.

And I welcome criticism. I asked for it in this post. But I just don't get how we're "more corporate."

CHTV couldn't be more pure and non-corporate. Seriously. That is an unfounded criticism based on the evidence at hand.

I understand the sentiment. Basically the idea behind the draft guide is that you're selling the information rather than providing it for free. This is decidedly different from all the other info that you provide.

That said, I'm not opposed to your selling it. You guys have to finance this thing somehow.

Yeah, it's like ever since Nagler took that job at the food network hosting "Chopped" it's gone to this sites' perverbial head. And he thinks that nobody would know it's him if he used the Alias "Ted Allen"... You're not as slick as you think you are dude.

http://www.foodnetwork.com/ted-allen/index.html

You can't tell me that's not Nagler, nobody can... though I do enjoy your work on Chopped sir.

So Nick Fairley and Marvin AUstin don't fit the scheme at 3-4, but bowers does? My hunch would be the opposite...

Re Garda's picks of two OG in the first three rounds, are you anticipating one of those moving to RT?

Yes, Jay, I don't necessarily agree with Paul, although I do respect his opinion and defer to his expertise. I think Bowers is talented enough to play both systems, and I think the same of Fairley. It's not like it's going to happen, but if the Packers had the opportunity to draft Fairley, it's tough to pass on that talent.

I guess the thinking with Fairley and Austin is that they're more ideally suited to a three technique as opposed to a five, but I definitely think Fairley could do both, and do both well.

Thanks Brian. A general question though: what makes a guy suitable for 3 tech but not for 5 tech?

Depends on the 3-4 the team runs.

Jenkins wouldn't fit well with the Patriots, as he's not good at holding 2 gaps.

But he's an incredible 1 gap penetrator.

When experts say a 5 technique or a 3, they're greatly generalizing. Most 4-3 DEs also play the 5 technique, and the Packers use Raji a lot of times in a 3 technique.

They should be talking about 1 or 2 gap responsabilities instead of 5 or 3 technique.

Also Jersey Al, while I like the Ayers pick, I find it hard to believe that if TT passed on OLB last year when there was one viable option at ROLB, that he would jump on one where there are three viable options.

These criticisms don't detract from my appreciation of the guide. Good work folks!

An ability to shoot through holes. The Packers have a lot of two-gap responsibilities where they don't shoot gaps a lot. They occupy spaces and hold up blockers.

I really don't see it that way. In "base" (the base is actually the 2-4-5, as we run it 55% of the time), Pickett and Raji do have that responsability. But Jenkins has always been used as a 1 gap penetrator. So was Neal and Wilson the times they were used. And in nickel, the Packers don't use 2 gap responsabilities.

The Packers use their players the best way possible. They don't ask the more agile DEs (Neal, Jenkins, Wilson) to hold the point of attack a lot and play 2 gaps. The also don't ask their bigger DEs (Pickett, Green) to shoot through gaps often.

They don't have any prototypical 2 gap DE. They don't use tall guys like the Patriots, 6-6 guys with range to contain. They prefer short guys who can win with leverage.

Thanks RS and Brian. This is why I don't agree with discounting folks like Fairley, et al. Our system seems flexible enough that we can utilize both 1 and 2 gap DEs

Anybody with the guide know if the Packers are thinking about any Alabama players ?!?! (not-that-there's-anything-wrong-with-that...)

I'm still weighing the option of a Cheesehead TV 2011 NFL Draft Guide vs. a Hardee's Thickburger combo -- I'm quite conflicted.

Greg McElroy indicated he interviewed with the Packers back during the Combine. Comparisons can be made to Matt Flynn as an SEC game manager that won a national championship.

I like McElroy - as a backup, he could be outstanding in the Packers' scheme. He's REALLY smart and would probably be up to speed quick.

He's got his flaws (as I say in the CHTV guide) but as a later pick, I think he'd be a good fit for the Packers.

More feedback, while I like Holly's section on needs, I think one way to improve it is have position by position need. this could incorporate a more TT way of viewing needs, who is gonna be a free agent next season. The example I have in mind is the series they have on Jersey Al's blog, starting with the WR. Just a thought.

I'm not too skilled at matching prospects with potential teams, but I probably could take a stab at FAs. What about a position-by-position assessment of teams that will be looking to draft, and teams that may be looking at FAs? It'll be awfully hypothetical, but I also don't want to completely steal from what Chad is doing on Al's blog.

After an initial scan I think it looks very nice. Obviously plenty of work has gone into it and it's been presented very well.

But the idea we would pick two Guards in the first 3 rounds seems highly unlikely, especially with Lang (and McDonald) waiting in the wings.

We know TT is a BPA drafter but he takes into account the needs of the team. He generally goes for interior linemen in the middle rounds. He has picked an Offensive Lineman(usually reasonably athletic) in rounds 4 or 5 in every draft as Packer GM.

It's totally plausible TT takes two o-linemen. Did you have him taking two DEs last year? No one did. It's TT. Anything is possible. Save maybe trading up in the third to select a punter ;)

Taking two lineman is fine, but I would think it would be one projected og/c and one projected OT. In any event, two out of the three top picks as both interior guys strikes me as implausible. Maybe one early and one late, that's understandable.

Well, as I said in the mock, Watkins can play either G or OT - though I think he'd fit better as a guard he is flexible in the way the Pac kerslike their linemen. Meanwhile when you get to the third, I didn't love any center. Schilling is a very good guard prospect who can hold his own in both run and pass protection. Given HOW bad the Packers were in protecting Rodgers at time - you can't IMO - put a price on fixing that line, if just for the long term health of Rodgers, who is your franchise.

There are some defensive players worth looking at but nobody who leapt out as a huge value.

Also remember I didn't have a late pick to throw another lineman in. And I think it's critical that they shore the line up. So when doing the last pick of the draft (for me) I felt I needed to drive home that point.

I totally get your point and don't disagree it's a little odd, but I feel that it's that important a need to fill.

Appreciate the feedback though, thanks. :)
