Railbird Gets It Right

Since I've been known to point out when people get it wrong, I'd be remiss if I didn't point out when they get it right, which Brian Carriveau certainly does with this post regarding the Packers off season plan.

Carriveau spends most of the post repudiating (correctly, I might add) Sporting News' contention that the Packers could have Lance Briggs and/or Marcus Trufant in their sites at the start of free agency. He goes on to make an even better observation, one that I hadn't thought of, but that makes perfect sense. Armed with plenty of cap space and a dire need for a big, nasty, road grading guard, the Packers could make a run at Alan Faneca, of the Steelers, who would be exactly what the Packers should be looking for at the position. He would inject not only the mindset the unit is lacking, but would help in the biggest deficiency the line had this season - opening holes on 3rd and 1.

Now, if Thompson would ever pay the money that Faneca will no doubt demand is an entirely other matter, but it's a rare instance of a 'name' player actually making sense as an off season acquisition.

I have been a huge Faneca fan for some time now. This would be a fantastic signing. They need this type of big, nasty guard on the line.
