Quick Hits: Vikings

Alex's quick hits and highlights from the Vikings game.

I honestly can say I have not been more nervously excited for a game as I was for this one in quite some time.

This is how I saw it.

Game Conditions: Went with the standard computer and television setup. Dinner consisted of pulled pork, homemade mashed potatoes, and squash.

Quick Hits

First Half

I don't remember ever hearing the stadium as loud as it was at kickoff.

Daryn Colledge is a drive killer.

James Jones... amazing or not? Make a decision.

I am loving the attempt at a draw and screen game. So is Brandon Jackson.

Really? We scored on a run from the one?

Holy block on the screen pass to Jackson by Greg Jennings. Finally, someone looks excited.

What's up with the quick goal line handoff offense on mid-field thing?

Two hundred yards of offense in the first quarter. Seven points.

I officially welcome Andrew Quarless to the list of those that have done the Lambeau leap.

I wish Kleinsasser would retire already. I hate that dude.

Who gave Pat Lee performance enhancing drugs? Thanks.

Chad Clifton showed why we re-signed him tonight.

Wow on the fake field goal Flynn to Quarless and he falls down play. Just wow.

Desmond Bishop is a good football player. Perhaps better? I'm not going to say it.

I'm really getting sick of Collinsworth.

That call on Nick Collins was terrible.

Nice job Brandon Jackson.

The challenge God's love McCarthy. First time for everything.

Scott Wells is quietly having a nice year.

Terrible decision by Rodgers to end the half. You just can't do that. Regression? Sorry, it's getting close.

Penalties and mistakes. This half it was mistakes.

Stupid Comment of the Half: " Every other quarterback in the league would have caught that pass, but not Rodgers, he let it drop."

Second Half

Terrible call on third and two. Absolutely frickin' terrible.

Did A.J. Hawk get a bump from Brian Carriveau. Nice pick.

Everything said, there was some nice pass protection tonight.

Dear Brad Jones: You are my hero.

Did you see that move by Greg Jennings on the touchdown. Route running, that's what makes him elite. He puts the team on his $%^& back.

Desmond.Bishop.

I don't remember that last three-and-out for this defense.

Is there some kind of rule that we have to go deep once every series?

I don't know how Kuhn got that first down. Killer.

Then McCarthy calls THE SAME PLAY again. Stupid. The world knows where that ball is going.

Nick.Collins

Speaking of rules, is their one about not running outside too?

Huge throw by Rodgers to Jennings.

Quit running the stupid quick handoff. Seriously.

C.J. Wilson made his presence known. Nice work.

Love it when games are nearly penalty free.

Jarius. Wynn.

How many blocks in the back were not called on the Peterson dump off? Two? Three?

Only a face mask can stop Clay Matthews.

HE'S OUT!

Why the three man? Why? Why? Why?

Dagger. Brett Favre, you suck.

Stupid Comment of the Half: "Deschaun Wynn, YES!"

MVP

Chad Clifton

Final Thoughts

Unbelievable.

It's going to be an amazing week.

Will there ever be a day when the refs can do their jobs? How on the earth do you call that Personal Foul against Collins or the TD to Harvin. Everyone in the stadium saw his foot out except the ref, who must have been too close to the play to get the call right.

Looked like they didn't even practice those plays. Most underperforming show on turf. But at least they showed up, from an emotional/psychological standpoint. They didn't go into one of those patented MM "lulls."

Bishop is for real. He was even covering Moss today. In pass coverage. On that last drive.
Jackson is showing he can get it done. 4.46 today. He's showing he's got an extra gear. Starting to look good on screens.
On that first INT, Rodgers was a complete idiot. Nance needs to find a lane, but Arodge just straight cannot throw that ball. On the second, that's one of his new "risky" plays that aren't working out. Let's call them "Brett Favre specials." The idea is that Jennings should be able to beat Frank Walker by making a play on the ball. Worst that should happen is Jennings ends up playing defense. Well, enter the tip drill.
We still go downfield too often. Too many excruciating dive plays to Kuhn. And seriously, do they PRACTICE those back shoulder fades? Because it doesn't look like it, at all.
I liked the fake FG. Quarless slipped, because we no longer have decent grass. We have crappy fieldturf. Plays slip on that all the time. It sucks.
OVERALL: This was some HUGE redemption for MM. His team showed up for a full 60, even with some execution gaffes on offense. At least they showed up and played hard.
Capers always seems to get more than the sum of his parts. I'd like to see MM get that from the offense. But they definitely looked better today.
Honorable mention: Pat Lee is starting to look like a kick returner.

I'm pretty sure Lambeau still has real grass not fieldturf. Actually, 100% sure. Agree with the rest of it though. Love the term "Brett Favre Special."

Yeah, that's right...it was the grow lights, jack.

Field Turf is natural grass with some kind of rubber fibers mixed in. It's stupid and it sucks and every game at Lambeau you see players slipping all over it. Lambeau used to have the finest natural grass in the league. Now it's just an injury risk, imo.
Sometimes their guys fall down on it, sometimes ours.

Beautiful, beautiful gameplan by Capers today. The Dline played their hearts out with all of those injuries.

I guess we'll have to define the term, "suck". Since they are NFL players- one wouldn't say. "they suck at playing football." And for every player on an entire team to "suck" - what does that mean? And what does it add to usually intelligent conversations on CHTV?

Hell Yeah!!!! This is a huge win to savage the season for now. I almost threw the football threw the living room wall when Favre threw that pick 6. The Defense played awesome tonight, nice contributions from from Wynn, Bishop, Hawk and others. Injuries have brought us to the point of who we can believe and trust in, time to build on this. Bigby, Harris coming back, time to see what Starks can do. Nice to see Chillar back and Donald Lee played great...let's win the NFC North and go from there!!!

Huge Win....hope Favre remembers the long gimpy walk off Lambeau field for years to come!

Best is yet to come...Chilly and his locker room are about to IMPLODE!!!

Very nice job by our guys, especially when you consider no Jenkins at all or Pickett for much of the game. I felt we played with a lot of heart and determination this evening. Hopefully this is our turning point and we carry this through to next week first, and the rest of the season next!

BTW, I gotta wonder how good our pass rush will be when we have Jenkins and Pickett in the lineup, along with Harris and Bigby back in the secondary. I believe this will let Woodson rush from the slot, which was very effective last season.

i was at the game tonight and it was amazing...definitely a nail biter, but such a great win. i've never seen/heard the fans cheering that loud after the game as we exited. GB really wanted this one, and we got it.

what happened with pickett and jenkins? i saw them on the sideline the whole game but never saw either go back in. were they just keeping them out to prevent further injuries?

does anyone think chillar is any good? we always put him on the TE and inevitably, the TE comes up big.

That fake FG was damn near one of the best things I've ever seen. I was just saying "Holy crap, this is a long kick," and then they break off and Flynn got a GREAT throw off. It's a shame Quarless slipped, because that was artful.

1. WHy is Nance in the game on fourth and short?
2. Why is he then going in motion on fourth and short leaving linebackers to key on Kuhn?

The plus: A screen to Lee that had a safety valve to Jackson on the other side. If Lee wasn't open, Jackson would have walked to the end zone. That is good play design.

The weird: Could we at least run one time with the three fullback set. That has become an obvious pass formation...geesh.

The REFS gave the Packers a "GIFT" last night, and you KNOW IT.

Packers = No TD to Quarles in the 1st Half.

Vikings = TD to Shiancoe called back.

What a f*cking joke. That's a swing of 7 points. The Packers lost the game.

The REFS gave it to him.

Spin it however you want, those are the facts.

PS. AROD sucked last night.

The HOMERS have their blinders on.....

1. No, that would be a 14 point swing.
2. The ground moved the ball in Shianblow's hands. McCarthy challenged. End of story.
3. Quarless didn't complete the catch. Childress didn't challenge. End of story.
3. The refs blew so many calls in that game that no one (not the Vikings, not their coach, not their fans, not the apparently self-hating Packer fan) can cherry pick two and calcamalate a fantasy recount in their head. Take your pick on the two penalties (interference and illegal touching) on the second INT. Collins' legal in-bounds hit. Missed holding calls all. night. long. Not seeing the second foot completely out of bounds from point blank perspective. The refs were atrocious for both teams. Packers outlasted both the Vikes and the Refs. End of story.
