Packers Vs. Steelers: First Impressions

My immediate thoughts on the Packers - Steelers game without the benefit of a re-watch.

...

Steelers open up the game with a 5-wide set and immediate hit a deep gain to Antonio Brown. They're not screwing around.

Huge first series for rookie cornerback Kevin King. Broke up a pass to Martavis Bryant (sorta) and made a touchdown-saving tackle on 3rd-and-goal. Not that it mattered.

Damarious Randall now has four interceptions in his last seven games. He's responded to the benching against the Bears tremendously.

If there's anything evident in Brett Hundley's game that's remained these last few weeks, it's the fact that he constantly looks at the rush rather than downfield. He's afraid to hit his first read, apparently.

This is why teams suit up every Sunday, regardless of their record. This is why I've said to expect the unexpected given how odd the NFL has been this season.

Screw the upset, I'm still sitting here in awe that the Packers actually ran a successful screen.

Have to commend Jamaal Williams. Ever since injuries decimated the RB stable, he's stepped up in a big way. Only 31 yards on 9 carries tonight, but he's running hard.

5 minutes ago: "McCarthy is coaching a great game!"

Now: "McCARTHY BEING A STUPID IDIOT MORON AS USUAL WHAT A SHOCKER HE CHOSE TO KICK THE FIELD GOAL I HOPE HE DIES."

In all honesty, though, I would've punted...

Hundley's miscues are rearing their ugly head in again, and all of the momentum that once belonged to Green Bay is swinging back to the home team's sideline.

Packers defense needed to step up for their biggest defensive possession of the season -- and they did.

28-21, Steelers. Brett Hundley, you're up.

Hundley's dropping back and hitting his first reads, the Packers are moving the ball as a result. That's the kind of style of offense Hundley needs to work with.

Veteran savvy from Jordy Nelson, knows just exactly where the Packers have to reach for the first down. Veteran savvy.

Nobody expected the 14-point underdog Green Bay Packers to compete tonight, yet, here they are. Losing on a last-second field goal hurts, but there's positives to take away from this.

Bottom line: And L is and L. And losing this game sucked. But there are positives to take away:

1. Hundley upped his trade value tremendously tonight. Play like this the rest of the season and he will be a starter somewhere next year (and get us a good pick).

2. The defense got 3 turnovers.

3. We ran the ball well. Again. PIT is not a slouch D.

4. Randall has played well. King's ceiling is very high. The DL is young and very good. Ditto the ILBs.

Negatives:

1. You get 3 turnovers and still give up 31 points. And like 500 yards. I say this every week, but Dom HAS to go.

2. That FG try was stupid.

3. Hundley didn't throw dumb picks, but he did sack himself 4x tonight.

4. WTH is wrong with HHCD?

5. House and Hawkins. Um... Yeah.

6. Oof, do we need help on the pass rush. And we need another CB. Yet again.

Overall though, this was the best TEAM effort GB has put in all year. Not just depending on ARod do to ARod things. If that running game and ballhawking defense was around when ARod was playing, we'd have blown everyone out.

For the first time since Dallas, GB was actually "Fun" to watch. Progress. Doesn't mean I don't want people fired, nor that this is a playoff team, but "progress" indeed.

This just needs to be emphasized over and over again.

This is the second time all year that Pitt > 30 points.

At some point and time the acceptance of a crappy D has to end.

I think 90% of the fanbase reached that point a year or two ago (or more). That may be a conservative estimate but we do still have flat earthers on the planet so i wanted to be safe.

I hope MM is going to join us in that opinion soon.

The D is definitely the problem. Especially pass defense. Allowing almost 500 yards by Steelers offense is not acceptable. With a few minutes left on the clock Steelers defense shuts our offense down. With seconds left you have to hold your breath that our defense is going to rise to the occasion.
And as usual they didn't. Hope we can put a top ten defense on the field before Rodgers retires.

Lets keep in mind the Steelers played one of their poorer games this year too with turn overs, open guys dropping passes and Bell. You remember Bell the guy Ted T passed over for that greater back Eddie Lacy,
No the packers played their hearts out tonight but I wonder how many will continue to do so now that they lost. I think many will give it up and try and just stay healthy.

It's potato Mr. Quail. Anyway, what most people don't realize it's not Mark Murphy or TT who decides if MM stays. It's ARod. He has that much power.

And after roughly twelve years of breaking him in I get the feeling ARod wants him around.

For me the achiles heel of this team that Rogers has helped to hide, for four years has been the pass defense. Capers has no clue on how run pass defense.
Yes we have new players and yes were stil making it easy on teams to stay on the field with the pass.

Our pass rush is poor. Daniels plays his ass off!! Nyone one else, Martinez good. But other team members? Our defenders play to far off. Our defenders get beat deep a lot. Our defenders are really dumber then a pile of rocks. Where's HaHa? Seems to lack the effort on most plays and is out of position? I enjoyed the game though because I wasn't stressed, as with the last foyr games, and thought the outcome would be worst. Capers D 500 yards allowed? Different year folks. Until we get an above average defense the same results will happen each year.

It's over the top without the death wish.

It was a mistake, sure. But not a huge one. It cost them 30-40 yards in field position. That might sound like a lot to teams with effective defense. But that's not the Packers. All it really did was hold Pitts under 500...barely.

Even so, the Packers had the ball with the score tied late in the game. So they recovered from it ok.

Hey Tarynfor12, Right On!! When you have a STUPID IDIOT MORON for a Coach, let our GREAT, CLUTCH, FG Kicker Mason (Cross Bar) Crosby attempt a 57 yard FG, when He's Iffy at Best from 40 yards, Who Do You Blame?, The Coach?, The Snapper?, The Holder? Certainly No One here is going to Blame Crosby for that Lame Attempt? GB Covered, that's all I care about, but they Lost the game, by giving up that field position. The rest of you can argue that all you want. That was a Bone Head call that cost GB this game. That took care of my Futures Bet.

Zack, I take my Hat off to you. You actually picked GB, & came Damn Close. I had a Pretty Good Feeling about this game, that GB would cover 14, but I Honestly didn't think they'd Win. You all jumped off Chicago, Jumped back on the Ravens, & now everyone jumped off on Pittsburg. Can any of you see a Pattern here??

I'd like to Upload a Picture of me & a Slot Hit I had last Saturday at Paris.

"Mason (Cross Bar) Crosby attempt a 57 yard FG, when He's Iffy at Best from 40 yards, "

2013 called. They want their assessment of Mason Crosby back.

In case you haven't noticed (and you obviously have not), Crosby has evolved beyond his early career inconsistency, Everybody misses now and again, And the 3 long snappers and new holder this year have not done him any favors. But he's not the same guy that left many Packer fans wondering how he could still have a job.

HankScorpio, If you go back & read my posts on Mason (Cross Bar) Crosby, you'll see that my criticism of him has always been his reliability, which in my opinion "Stinks". I've said many times, He can kick 60 yard FG's when were 20 pt's ahead, but you can't count on him when we're 3 pt's behind. You only remember the kicks at the end of the games. I remember the kicks in 1st & 2ond Quarters that would have changed the outcome of games, like the Kurt Warner game that cost us a trip to a SB. You all blame Favre for that interception in 2007, when you should Blame (Cross Bar) & Al Harris, who was made a fool of by Plexico Burrus. You only Remember the end of games. In my Business I remember the Whole Game. If you did, you might have a different opinion.

Do you think I care if he's 80% the last 7 years?, most of which were not game winners. I care about the 20% he missed, mostly in the 1st & 2ond Quarters, that cost us games that we lost by 2, 3, 4, pt's ect. But you wouldn't understand that. Again, you only see the points at the end of the game, or in the 4th Quarter. You point to the Dallas Game last year. He had a Great Game that day. You'd be Hard Pressed to find another? That's how he should Perform if he were a Great Kicker, but he doesn't. I said in my posts that he wasn't a CLUTCH KICKER, & he isn't. I have No Doubt now that he'll probably make 60 yarder's the rest of the year. I'll say it again for the Last Time. He has hit more Goal Posts than any other kicker I've seen in my lifetime. He's capable of making Long FG's, but seldom when we've needed them. I'm not the only person here who feels this way. Why do you only talk Smack to me?

"In my Business I remember the Whole Game. If you did, you might have a different opinion"

I think we can find common ground on this point. I certainly believe that your business losses on a Crosby miss are behind the axe-grinding. I've known plenty of gamblers and that is perfectly consistent across them. Since it is not my business, I tend not to hold on to grudges quite as tightly.

But let's talk clutch kicks for a moment, shall we? That excludes the 1st half of regular season games. Your betting interests do not equate to clutch situations for anyone but you. What he did in Dallas last year was so so ice-blooded assassin-like, I'm surprised that anyone would question him (until you let slip it was all about your business anyways). Since that was not enough, we can dig deeper. In the playoffs, every kick is clutch. It's not like the regular season where an innocent looking 2 Q miss comes back to bite so you move on to the next week. It's lose and go home so every point is precious. Including his pre-2012 years when he was consistently inconsistent in the regular season, his career playoff % (89.6) is better than his best regular season mark (89.2-2013). He's not missed an XP in 59 postseason attempts. So when the stakes go up, he's at his best.

Since you mentioned single games, aside from the huge kicks vs Dallas last year, he knocked down 5-5 in awful conditions vs Seattle in the NFC CG. He also kicked 5 in a game at least once from 2013-2015 in regular season games.

As far as only talking "smack" to you, honestly, I've not seen anyone else say that Crosby is a bad kicker recently. I used to see it a lot. Not so much anymore. Because he's not a bad kicker anymore. He got better after bottoming out in 2012. If you just took his 2013-2017, he's about 13th all-time in make %. For his entire career, he's 50th. That's quite a stark difference. Since he never took money out of my pocket, I was able to notice the change.

I'll admit, my Memory isn't as good as it used to be. You mentioned a couple of Good games he's had. I'm well aware of that. I'll mention 2 that cost us SB's. Those are 2 misses that kept us out of Probably Winning 2 SB's. He's never taken money out of my pocket, but he has helped Las Vegas Plenty. Until recently, I quit betting the GB games, so it's not about any of my money. It's about GB getting to SB's. Ryan Longwell is 24th all time & could put Mason (Cross Bar) Crosby in his back pocket. I have plainly acknowledge that Crosby was a bad kicker until 2012. Many wanted him cut. I did too. I still have no idea how he survived 2012. The entire point was that he has rewarded the Packers for their patience and has been different kicker since that time.

Do you want to talk about his college or high school career too? It still won't change the point but whatever you need to grind the axe sharp.

Of coarse he's a better kicker now. The question is Clutch!! How can he be considered anything but Good, when everyone else gets Blamed for his Bad Kicks?? I didn't expect him to make that 57 yard FG last night. As Senile as you might think I am, that was the Biggest Blunder I've seen since Jamal Reynolds or Willard Harrell. As Ridiculous as that call was, didn't you expect a Better Attempt than that, or was that the Snapper & Holders Fault?

Crosby most certainly never missed a kick that cost the Packers a SB appearance.

In 2007 NFC CG, Crosby was 2-2 FG and 2-2 XPs. So you shanked it as bad as Crosby last night on that one. It didn't happen. It's all in your head and doesn't exist outside it. Maybe you got him confused with the Giants kicker, Lawrence Tynes, who was 3-5 on FGs Sort of an odd thing to get backwards. Maybe you're just not clutch at remembering things.

On the AZ game, it was more like a Crosby upright special---kind of close but ultimately just another miss. It's true that he missed a 1st Q FG in an eventual 51-45 OT loss. But it was a wild card game. Warner was only the first of a 4 HoF QB gauntlet that would have taken them to NO to face Brees, then Minny vs Favre and finally Manning in the SB. So even if you pin the loss on Crosby (which is very debatable) it is downright delusional to say that had they gotten by that one, the rest were in the bag.

Don't trust me? Here's a couple of links. Look for yourself and take one step closer to reality.

LVT, this will likely make you mad but what is with the incessant ranting of your winnings...if true. Perhaps I'm old school but gamblers don't brag about their winnings to the world.only losers do to cover their losses. If you're winning great but just keep it to what and who you like in games...all else need not be shared.
A major reason I don't go to the casino is to not be listening to I won this,I won that bs that literally has everyone walking around a winner. Even the experts don't win that often in reality...fantasy sure.
Lastly, I've seen many a photo taken of slot machine payouts uploaded that wasn't the one claiming the win...if you won that's great but nobody really cares here and it should remain your business....reason I hardly ever make known my actual bets.

D played well enough with injuries to CM, Clark and others.

It's all on the D now and has been for the last few years. Surprised they didn't throw for 600 yds today with virtually no pass rush.

I don't understand the reasoning for the 57 yard FG try.
Punt the ball and try to pin the Steelers inside their 10 yard line. At least make them go 80 yards even with a touchback.

Williams out of bounds, a rookie mistake.

Much better game than I expected. Thanks, Since '61

Hundley played his best game overall as a starter. He led this team to come back and tie late in the game. That drive was his best.

When they tied up the game my first thought was there was to much time left on the clock. Which in the end there was. But it was awesome seeing that drive unfold.

The defense played ok. Not great, not horrible, especially without 2 of its best players. But getting 3 TO's should have been bigger then what it was. Unfortunately the offense couldn't capitalize on 2 of them.

I was hoping for the victory but honestly was expecting a loss so it's not a huge blow. It was nice to not get blown out like most predicted.

Overall a good game. I'm proud to be a Packers fan! Go Pack Go!

"The defense played ok. Not great, not horrible"

More spin from RC. -------- The "D" gave up 31 points and almost 500 yards. -- They also failed miserably in the last minute of the game. -- Even an average "D" would have pulled this game out for the Pack.

Samson-

Go fuck yourself... seriously! I'm sick and tired of your shit!

The day after I had to say goodbye to someone very close to me, my grandma, with whom was a Huge Packers fan, and a better one then most of us. I decided to watch the game to try and help ease the pain. And guess what, it helped. I watched a good game. It would have been a game that she would have been proud of. I was happy with the game, albeit they lost.

So I come on here and express my opinion about what the game was and the first person to say anything is you... I don't need your attitude.

I don't care if I get kicked off of here at this point. Life is to short to deal with people like you.

To Al and whoever at Cheeseheadtv, if you want to remove me from this site, do it...I am not going to waste any more of my time with people like Samson.

Guess what! ------- The older you get the longer your list becomes.

nigri - RC has been, is now and will remain an asset and one of the best posters on this site. Samson had previously admitted to being a Vikings troll and he posts here to bash the Packers and their fans.

Your approach is unnecessary, unwanted and totally personal and had nothing to do with the game. If you can't add anything constructive to the conversations regarding the Packers on the field except to insult the posters who actually comment on the game then please don't bother.
We don't come here to be insulted and we certainly don't deserve it from you or anybody else.

Tonight there was better execution on offense. Defense does better with the base defense and not the "special" packages that put smaller players on the field. Special teams still an issue with penalties and fundamental mistakes. Poor coaching decisions on the LONG field goal attempt with a shaky unit. Still think lack of depth and talent shows .

I think we saw what Morgan Burnett means to this defense. They just looked more coherent.

Bottom line: Pittsburgh just has more playmakers. Brown...Bell...those guys are outstanding. When they needed a play, those guys made them. That catch by Brown on the sideline on that last drive? Wow. Roethlisberger (who lists at 240 on the Pittsburgh roster...240? Is that how many egg mcmuffins he eats at breakfast? Really?) isn't an elite QB, but he doesn't have to be. He might be the shakiest part of that offense.

Although the final result was the same as last week, it was literally day and night different from an entertainment standpoint.

Where I was nearly nodding off last week, this time I was experiencing the pangs of excitement that surround a competitive game against a good opponent.

Even though I'm in the tank camp, I couldn't help pull for my beloved Pack to win even if it hurt's them late next April.

So, it is a pretty good result for you and others:

1. L = better draft position;
2. Hundley's performance = glimmer of a pick;
3. Other players picked up their play today;
4. The game was entertaining.

Downside for the fire everyone crowd: MM hasn't lost this team. Still, there were enough weird decisions made by MM for that crowd. And enough high picks/highly paid players didn't do much for the fire TT crowd to chew on.

I think all four of your points are right on. I think Hundley needs to play like that the rest of the way to really have a chance to have serious suitors this off-season, but it was a feel-good to see him play well...and not immediately go backward in the face of pressure.

Hundley stepping up in the pocket and not retreating was the most positive development of the game, IMO. Unfortunately, the Steelers were getting good inside pressure so he stepped up into traffic more often than not.

actually a great game. what a surprise. kudos to hunley and the coaching that got him (almost) there.

here are my top 5 plays that stand out as game changers thwarting an otherwise well played effort:
5) helmet to helmet uncalled. egregious. (refs)
4) rookie mistake stepping out of bounds (coaching)
3) considering the field goal (coaching)
2) calling the field goal (coaching)
1) not even coming close on the field goal (snap? Hold? kicker?)

Maybe it will be. The Steelers tied the game and then took the lead after that FG attempt.

But then the Packers tied the game up again. And got the ball back from the defense with a chance to take the lead. So what was the subsequent turning point to make the game turn again?

And then there was yet another turning point that resulted in the GW FG from Pitts.

So it was obviously a game full of twists and turns.

Well, I think he was being aggressive.... it failed and it wasn't anything but a long shot, but with our pass D, I am not sure it was as dumb as all that, just a risk that was unsuccessful. Had he scored, the game would have changed.

My observation (I have been busy eating some of my words on Hundley l) is that King healthy will be a real difference maker. I fear that will be next season. I hope the experience helps one of the other youngsters to grow as a player.

"8. If the Steelers hadn't dropped all of those passes this game would not have been this close."

I had those thoughts last night, too. Pittsburgh was not at their best last night, but you can only play the team that lines up against you. A couple of those drops were tough plays to make, but others were plays you expect an NFL-caliber receiver to come down with. Whatever the case, I would've gone for at least one more drop (Brown on the sideline on that last drive).

Im gettting ready for the rotten tomatoes, but Jordy Nelson should go before Randall Cobb at this point.

It's clear he has lost a step with the combination of age/his injury, and quite frankly, I've seen at least 4 or 5 plays since Rodgers went down with injury where Jordy doesn't play through the whistle.

Love me some Jordy, and he's still got some tread left, but if it's Jordy or Cobb on the block? Sorry, it's Jordy.

Bell and Brown. Capers still has no answers how to stop the leaders on any club. The packers moved the DL around, and Ben still gets 300 plus yards. This is a get lucky Defense. Capers still must go. Is Adams the #1 WR.? He made some clutch catches tonight. Well done Adams. The best comment I heard tonight. Don't put your hands up until your ready to catch the Ball. Your head bounces and you won't catch the ball.

This defense did what it pretty much always does: gives up lots of yards, and tries to allow its offense to win games by forcing teams to settle for FGs or turn the ball over. They just weren't equipped well enough to pull it out.

I know we've been beating this drum a lot recently but if #12 is under center last night, who knows how that game turns out. I don't see Pittsburgh attacking the Packers defensively the same way in the first half: they were content to sit back and play the run. The second half looked more like what I think we would've seen from them against an ARod-led Packer offense.

If AR played I think you take Bell out of the game. Part of our problem is that we had to defend him and one of the best NFL receivers because it was always close enough that the run was in play for Pittsburgh. Bell at the moment is perhaps the best back in the game.

The next time Crosby hits his next no chance wobbler thats 20 yards off the mark, Vogel and Goode need to stand-up, raise there arms and shake their heads while staring Crosby down like he does to them.

He didn't lose the game. He wouldn't have made it anyway. It was a HUGE SWING OF MOMENTOM, that should never have happened. Anyway Crosby is about as average as you can get, & actually Less.

Not sure if anyone else mentioned it, but the REFS NON CALL, HELMET TO HELMET ON Hundley probably Hurt us as much as anything. That would have kept us going. That's the part of this game called NFL Football I wish I could get to the bottom of.

"Mojo, I'm Glad someone has been watching the same games I've been watching. The guy is Nothing more than a FG Kicker in a Uniform. He would have been gone in 2007 if it were up to me. "

Did you stop watching the games after 2012?

From his rookie year of 2007 through 2012, he hit 80%+ just once. You could count on him hitting a 2-4 game stretch where he was horrible each year. 2012 was the low point at 63.6% where the horrible stretch was the entire 2nd half of the season.

Since then, he's hit better than 80% each year. And the bad stretches have gone away. In GB, where kicking in December is an adventure.

Last year in Dallas, he made two 50+ kicks in the final 2 minutes in Dallas, including having to twice nail the 56 yd GW due to a late TO by Dallas.

Lot of people would have let Crosby go at some point in his first 6 years. Most of them have since admitted that he rewarded the Packers patience by turning into a reliable FG kicker. Congrats on being one of the few to ignore the evidence since 2013 and sticking to your guns. It's not being stubborn, it's being consistent, right?

Brett Hundley played a full 60 minutes of football tonight as well as the majority of NFL starting QB's would be expected to. 130+ QB rating. He was getting the ball out decisively, driving the ball, showed touch.

There's some complaints about being sacked 4 times. At least two of those sacks were "what could he do" sacks. The biggest complaint coming out of everyone's mouth (and rightfully so) the last two weeks was Hundley doesn't step up into the pocket and he doesn't go through his progressions. Well, he stepped up into what pocket he had tonight, and he repeatedly used his eye discipline going through reads.

Will he continue to develop into a legit starting caliber QB? Only time will tell, but he showed tonight he DOES have the necessary tools to get it done. Remember, just 7 days ago everyone said it was absolutely crystal clear he couldn't play in this league.

As far as the players "giving up" after this loss, it's something to watch unfold. I will say this, for as poor of a coach as everyone claims MM is, he has always had supreme command of his locker room in terms of where the team's head is at, and for all those who claim MM can't do anything without AR running the show... This is the second time MM has walked into a game without AR at the helm facing a top-tier opponent in their house as a major underdog and given the home team all they can handle. If Hundley is a bum, and the defense sucks.. Who pulled the team together and took it down to the wire tonight?

Something to build on. Go Pack.

The difference in this game was experience. Hundley did not recognize the delay blitz by TJ Watt and got sacked. QB1 sees the delay coming and resets the play at the line and burns the defense. Only way Hundley gets there is playing time. there is no other way, At least Hundley took two steps forward yesterday.

" At least Hundley took two steps forward yesterday."

Instead of running backward 10 yards to avoid the rush?

I'll say this, though: he's clearly been coached this week to step up, and Pittsburgh was playing to contain him in the pocket, so it really was his only shot. He was horrible a week ago at bailing on the pocket and giving up yardage. He didn't look COMFORTABLE stepping up, but at least he did it. Baby steps...

I agree with a lot of your comment. There are things to build on. My gut says that BH never fixes his issues, but my head continues to suggest that the light might come on. Physical talent was never an issue.

BH did a better job of stepping up in the pocket instead of retreating. He was somewhat better at keeping his eyes downfield.

His 17 completions only traveled 62 yards past the LOS (per PFF), with the bulk of that coming on the busted coverage completion and the deep pass to a really wide open receiver. BH did not complete a pass that traveled more than 10 yards past the LOS otherwise. But he was more willing to trust his first read and pull the trigger, allowing his receivers to help him with YAC.

Randall looks like a competent slot CB.
Spriggs looked better. GB did line up an extra OL next to him a few times, and not infrequently a TE or H-back was stationed near him.
Linsley had yet another > average game against a good DL.
M Adams got his first tackle (it was an assist).

The OG didn't have a good game. Cam Heyward is a load.
Dix is really hurting this team.
9 pressures on 49 pass attempts is awful. 1 sack. 2 QB hits.
Bell is really good; lots of YAC & making people miss.
We doubled Antonio Brown a lot - still 10rec/12 targets/169 yds.

I can not disagree. If Pittsburg are as good as folk say, both MM and Hundley deserve credit for that.

Next week we have a weaker opponent. If Hundley plays like he did yesterday I will finish eating my words from last week. At the same time I will have to give credit to MM for coaching and game planning.

Prior to this game, just the sight of Hundley made me sick. I found myself Rooting for him as the game went on. It's a shame he had to lose this game on that Bone Headed FG call, & The Refs. Yes The Refs. Watch the end of the game. There was a clear Helmet to Helmet hit on Hundley that they Didn't Miss, they just Didn't Call. He played good enough to Win. I want the "Head Guy" gone, Murphy gone, & Capers gone. McCarthy I don't know about. I'd leave that up to AR. I don't think I'd want to change coach's on him, unless he wanted it. Yes, the helmet to helmet penalty should have been called. But Hundley doesn't get some kind of weird credit for Watt's poor decision to lead with his helmet. Look at Flakcatcher's comment above: BH needs to anticipate this pass rush and take the hot read or throw it away. Watt should be able to sack BH w/o committing a penalty in that situation: the penalty would have been fortuitous for us, but it is not to BH's credit.

Yes, Hundley does need to improve all of those. Nevertheless the penalty should have been called and would have likely had a potentially decisive difference. That is not to credit Hundley, but it likewise doesn't credit Pittsburg or the officials for a play that should have bitten Pittsburg in the behind

I am sickened to see a beautiful game by a depleted offense (against a great defense) get utterly squandered by a pathetic defensive attempt. Yeah yeah, they had three turn overs. Whoop-de-freakin-do, they allowed 70 plays to go for 462 yards. Dom is useless as a coordinator. The offense let us down for weeks. Finally they turn in a good effort and low and behold this is the game in which the defense decides to take the night off.

Very encouraged, despite the loss. This game could have gone either way.

I, like everyone, expected a blowout. McCarthy got his team ready to play. The defense got that huge stop late in the 4th quarter to give the ball back, and generated 3 turnovers.

No Clay Matthews. No Kenny Clark. No Ty Montgomery or Aaron Jones. No Bryan Bulaga or Aaron Rodgers, for that matter.

And we STILL almost won. I hate the 57 yd FG try, but there's a lot to like here.

Beat Tampa and Cleveland, get to 7-6, and maybe Rodgers will come back in 3 weeks vs. Carolina. Never give up!

Scheme is asking him to cover a lot space. Something he has never had to do in college or at the pro level. You try playing with Hawkins, Brice or Evans, what a nightmare for Dix. (To be honest, Evans has shown rapid improvement over the past three weeks. He is a assignment sure, which is a huge upgrade over Brice) And he is trying to help the CB on his side of the field, even if it puts him out of position. It is only in the last two games that the secondary has shown some stability, which has allowed Dix to be more aggressive in both run support and in coverage. The Dallas game did far more damage to the defense, and secondary than we realize at the time.

Oh yeah since 61 is almost a perfect balance, because now he’s finally had enough ha.. I’m happy you guys comment and I can read the same frustrations I have.. I turned the game on in the second half and couldn’t believe they were winning 21-14.. But I just knew it wouldn’t last, but hoped they’d win.. But this team seems to know just how to break your heart the hardest.. And I’m tired of the hope that comes, and then it’s snatched away again and again.. I’m with a total house cleaning, to bad it probably won’t happen ..

I know I never post on this site,I read comments all the time, but it’s one of my favs along with acmepack.. And pro football talk ( if you want to be subjected to queen trolls)..The football knowledge I’ve learned from here and the other sites is awesome.. Nickperry, thegreatreynoldo, bearmeat, dobbler, and I’m sure there’s many others( Sorry if I left you out).. I’m totally with you guys, I respect Reynaldo for his immense knowledge and statists/analyst .. But I’m more on the nickperry train, where I want change..I’m extremely tired of this whole organization from top to bottom..

If you can't turn all those defensive draft picks into a successful defense, find someone who can.

Ya or try and draft guys that can tackle, cover and know how to play the receivers. Dix sucked, they all suck. I've always wondered is it Capers or is it the guys Capers is given to work with. They again looked clueless for the 11th game in a row. It never ends. They cannot get off the field.

HHCD completely whiffed tackling Bell at least 4 times in the open field.

But Collingsworth thinks he's a premier tackler.

Good thing I wasn't taking a drink with Collingsworth said that. It would have made for a messy spit take.

Steelers have a team of PLAY MAKERS. Ditto NE, Minny, Rams, teams with winning records have playmakers on both sides of the ball.

Other than Adams and Rogers and he aint playin, this team lacks talent all around. Poor Jordy has lost a few steps now and is no longer a play maker. Daniels can be at times but not on every play. he has no help.

Pittsburgh have 2 really good players. They play in a bad conference but they do have a good vet QB. They aren't streets ahead in my view. Think the game supported that. They are also a lot healthier than we are I think.
