Packers Vs. Jets: Offense, Defense & Special Teams

Each phase of the game is previewed from a Packers perspective as Green Bay travels to New York to take on the Jets at noon CDT at new Meadowlands Stadium.

Here's some key aspects to watch for in each phase of the game from a Packers perspective...

  • Offense: Eligible receivers not named Driver and Jennings–Because the Jets love to blitz and because their best players in the secondary are Darelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie, receivers not lined up on those two stud cornerbacks will play a key role in the Packers passing game. Jennings and Driver may win a couple battles, but they won't win the war against Revis and Cromartie. Because of that, guys like James Jones, Jordy Nelson, the tight ends and even the running backs must make the Jets pay. Nelson and Jones must make vulnerable Jets corner Kyle Wilson pay. Tight end Andrew Quarless needs to be utilized like Jermichael Finley. And some well-timed screens to the running backs could counteract the pressure from the Jets.
  • Defense: Force turnovers–Roles have been reversed. A year ago the Packers led the NFL in turnover differential. This year the Jets do. The Packers are going to need to force a couple turnovers to win this game. Forced fumbles would be appreciated, but more likely interceptions from the secondary will be the key to victory. Charles Woodson and Nick Collins have had so many "picks" over the past two previous seasons, it's almost hard to believe they haven't gotten into the act nearly as much in 2010. Maybe they're past due, and it's only a matter of time.
  • Special teams: Win the place kicking battle–Nick Folk has been solid on field goals this season hitting 13 of his 15 attempts for an 87.5% conversion rate. Mason Crosby has never been able to exceed 80% any season in his three-year career. Right now he sits at 75% going 9 of 12, and his season could go in either direction. Make the next few without a miss and he could exceed 80%. Miss a field goal or two today, and he seems destined never to eclipse that elusive 80% mark. In a close game, a field goal could make the difference.

That pretty well nails it, Brian, along with holding LT & Green to 4.00 yds per carry. If they can make Sanchez try and beat us, we're in good shape. He can be forced into some mistakes. Packers need a 1st Q TD(not just FG's) as jets haven't given up a 1st Q score yet this yr. Bishop needs to come up big in stopping the run. This is the week Offense needs to carry the team...short passing game can beat jets CB's--they don't tackle all that well, so quick hits and YAC. If MM calls a game like he did last week to help neutralize the Jet's pass rush, I really think this is a very winnable game.
