Thank you for your time, Campbell. Your performance in 2021 was one for the history books. Unfortunately, the Packers can't continue to pay for the level of play you have been achieving. Best of luck!

I would’ve liked to see Campbell wear the dot in THIS defense…his career got Berry’d I liked the pick but now Walker must prove to be consistent, disciplined, and intelligent…also now we have 2 starters missing at LB I trust Gutekunst and Ball to figure it out

Campbell had a great first year in Barry's scheme, unfortunately it didn't last and injuries really took their toll over the last 2 years. Also, who's the other starter we're missing? McDuffie is still there, unless you're referring to Wilson, but I wouldn't consider him anything more than a ST contributor. They definitely have a plan and are more than likely going to draft 1-2 LB's in April.

Two holes…McDuffie is a backup and a good one but not starter level sorry not 2 missing just 2 that we must find now

Maybe the Campbell of 2021, the only exceptional year of his career. He's 31, and he's finished as far as being anything but mediocre..

Good comment on Walker. He could be a big key to this defense succeeding and I think intelligence has a lot to do with it. He needs to put the work in this off-season to improve his football intelligence. No more hitting the wrong gaps in run defense. I think Hafley will simplify things for him but he also needs to put in the film study time and learn to trust his eyes. I don't think he's a real instinctive LB but he can hone that with the right teaching and a large amount of film work. Otherwise they will probably be looking in a different direction next year at this time.

Nothing against Campbell but his contract is high and in the new scheme he might be on the field about 25% of the plays. You cannot pay a player starters pay for 25% of the playing time. Plus Campbell is not a strong side LB and he does not tackle well against the run.
They will pick up a cheaper option in FA and use the draft.

Maybe even a cheaper Campbell. They could be thinking this and talked to him about a prove it deal. At his age he has to start on that road or be out of it.

I actually saw that he would be playing 25% AFTER this post…-while I think he still has another 2021 season in him his cap hit was too large for so few snaps..I’ve been getting Cooper repeatedly at #41 and Colson day 3…who doesn’t like a good value

I liked the Campbell pick up in 2021 and thought we would be set there for a few seasons. He deserved the big contract. But injuries suck! Best of luck D'vondre!

That's a little bit of a surprise to me, as I thought Campbell would be back. Apparently, the Packers think they have better options in FA at that position for less money.

Just my 2 cents - but it seems to me to be another promising career that was torpedoed by Joe Barry's ineptness.
That list includes:
Coach Gray
Darnell Savage
Rasul Douglas
Campbell
And others.
Again, just my opinion.

In regards to Rasul Douglas, he had the two best years of his career in Green Bay in Joe Barry's defense- 2021 and 2022. He was having a "down year" in terms of picks in 2023 while he was still in Green Bay, but interceptions often come in bunches and his stats outside of interceptions are almost identical otherwise between his 7 weeks in GB compared to his 9 weeks in Buffalo... and his 2023 stats in total are almost identical to his production in 2021 and 2022.
I'm not sure that there is much proof that Joe Barry's defense (or his 'ineptness') did anything to "torpedo" Rasul Douglass at all. Lots of fair criticism for Barry; I just don't think there's any statistical proof that points towards any significant reduced level of play in Douglass- if anything, Rasul's play blossomed in Green Bay.

Rasul Douglas is and always was a zone cover corner. Joe Barry's defense is and always has been zone. That's why Douglas thrived while everyone else has starved. We have mainly man coverage corners and we have been misusing them since Barry arrived. Alexander, Stokes, Valentine, they're all guys that like to be physical with the receivers in man. Hafley's scheme will hopefully brighten their futures.

Exactly. 💯 I thought Gutey could have gotten more for him but he wouldn't have been a great fit for this defense. It's going to require great athletes on the outside that can redirect in press.

You might want to look over De'Vondre Campbell's career stats as well... he had the best year of his career under Joe Barry in 2021. 2022 was arguably his 3rd best year of his 8 year career, and 2023 he only played 11 games, some of them while injured.. and if you look at his stats and project a 16 game season, it would have put up numbers that were on par for his average career totals.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but there's stats and data that can help make for an informed one.

My eyes watching every snap from 2021 til now inform my opinion that yes Campbell had a career year in 2021 and yes showed injury wear in the last two BUT my eyes seen him paired with an athletic marvel who was undisciplined, (assignments, I care less about the ejections, I like my linebackers to be aholes) Not highly instinctual, and possibly out of position…my eyes informed me watching the SF game what solid LB play looks like…stats credit someone with a tackle every play regardless where it’s made (Blake Martinez) while my eyes see Berry get less out of more investment because of well…the reason he got fired

My eyes told me Campbell was a average journeyman LB who had one big season and got paid like he had a career trajectory of big seasons.
My point in the above was only that Cambpell's last two seasons were more indicative of the player he always was as opposed to two seasons that were abnormally poor due to bad coaching/scheme.
I wasn't sold on Campbell and I was hesitant about his payday based on what I thought might have been a complete outlier pro-bowl season.

Sorry, I came off like an asshole there I actually agree that your position is more likely to be correct…my tone came from concern that this team doesn’t have a lot of known options to fill that green dot role and I, admittedly unlikely, convinced myself he was going to have another outlier season for Hafley…great thing about NFL is he’ll get a chance just in SF and if he does I hope he plays horrible in the NFC Championship

I'm a little surprised because in the big picture they didn't save all that much, $2.6 million. This does allow them to be players in FA though and kind of tells you they probably thought his decline wasn't all because of injuries.
Now we know they will be either signing a FA LB or grabbing a LB by the end of day 2 of the draft.

Or maybe they thought his decline WAS because of injuries, and they are not confident that he's going to stay healthy.

I read that with a post 1 June designation they will save a total of 10 mil
