Packers talking extension with Jaire Alexander

The veteran cornerback is a priority in Green Bay.

Brian Gutekunst and the Green Bay Packers are talking extension with the general manager's first ever draft pick.

Per a source with knowledge of the talks, the Packers and Jaire Alexander's camp met on Wednesday to talk about a contract extension.

The team is obviously juggling several things when it comes to roster construction and the salary cap, most notably whatever may happen with Aaron Rodgers and possibly extending or placing the Franchise Tag on Davante Adams.

No extension for Alexander is immenent, but the Packers have made it clear to Alexander's camp that the cornerback is a priority. There's a very good chance that an extension could be completed prior to the start of the new league year on March 16th.

As Ken Ingalls recently pointed out, the Packers can make Alexander the highest-paid cornerback in football and still save over $6 million in cap space this upcoming season.

This is a NO-BRAINER. Alexander is a player the Packers MUST keep no matter what happens with Rodgers or Adams. Personally I thought this would have been one of the first things they did for some cap relief.

Get er done!!!

I was at the Dallas draft and was disappointed that Green bay didn't take one of the athletic LBs that went after their original selection. Very glad I was wrong. Jaire is the closest CB that the Packers have had since Willie Buchanon, who before injury maybe the best of the modern era.
FYI, Jaire, Stokes, and Savage were all considered 2nd round players until a couple weeks before the draft. They all shot up because of their combine results, but I also suspect their interviews. The Packers must have loved the speed, but wanted to know if they could play their positions in the NFL. Maybe something to watch this year.

The Packers are taking care of business as fast as they can, especially considering the landscape. But once the Aaron Rodgers domino falls, then all the rest of the contractual questions will flood out and we'll know what their 2022/23 vision is. #GoPackGo

He could become the highest paid corner in the league and no one(except for a couple of other cb's) would bat an eye.

DO IT!

The Packers are laying the groundwork. This certainly gets done by March 16th, but I think it gets done much sooner, within days.

It only remains to be seen if GB generates $5M, $6M or $7M in cap relief from Mr. Alexander.
