Packers releasing OL Elgton Jenkins

The move is expected to save the team approximately $19.5 million in 2026 salary cap space

The Green Bay Packers are moving on from one of the most versatile offensive linemen of the last decade. According to reports, the team has released veteran guard/tackle Elgton Jenkins, marking the end of a significant chapter along Green Bay’s offensive front. The move is expected to save the Packers approximately $19.5 million in 2026 salary cap space

Originally selected in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft out of Mississippi State, Jenkins quickly became one of the Packers’ most valuable offensive linemen thanks to his rare positional flexibility. Over the course of his career in Green Bay, Jenkins started games at left guard, right guard, center, and both tackle spots, often stepping in wherever the Packers needed stability the most.

At his peak, Jenkins was one of the best interior linemen in football, earning Pro Bowl honors in 2020 and playing a key role in protecting both Aaron Rodgers and later Jordan Love. His combination of power, athleticism, and football IQ made him a cornerstone of the Packers’ offensive line for several seasons.

However, the NFL is a constant churn of roster decisions, and the Packers appear ready to move forward with a younger group up front after a disappointing run at center in 2025 prior to ending up on injured reserve with a fractured fibula and ligament damage in his lower leg.

That said, Jenkins should have a strong market as a free agent, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him land quickly with a contender looking for proven versatility along the offensive line.

Maybe revisit their driveways as long as you're there?

I'd have massive respect if he started showing up in Bob Ueker's sport coats.

He should have a horn, too, like the one Harpo Marx used.

I don't know why he'd have a strong market given his age, the decline over his last 2 seasons, and coming off another injury. Of course, i never believed Gute could get any draft pick, let alone a 4th, for Rashan Gary.

Doubt Elgton will get a lot but he would be a good backup at a cheap price.

I wish the best for Jenkins wherever he ends up. When healthy he was an excellent player for the Packers. Unfortunately age and injury takes too many NFL players prematurely. Elgton I appreciate your efforts for the Packers. Thanks, Since '61

Thanks for everything, Jenkins. You were a good player in GB but it's time to move on and your cap hit will do us wonders when trying to find another piece to the puzzle.

Jenkins could always be counted upon, until Gute did the opposite he should have done and made Jenkins a Center instead of a FA starter or best Center in the draft...by anyone other than his cute pick (Myers). That was the first problem. Good luck...with the rest of your career...GB is going sideways this season anyway unless we find a DE/OLB and a couple Stud DL...a couple OL...CB

I'm optimistic about Jenkins. Don't think there's any chance anybody else signs him. He'll linger for months with his injury. I'd bet dollars to donuts he's a Packer again by Thanksgiving.
