Packers Release RB Orwin Smith

The Green Bay Packers released running back Orwin Smith on Monday, according to the NFL's transaction wire, less than a week into the offseason training program.

Smith was originally signed to the team's practice squad last November, where he spent the remainder of the 2013 season. When the season was over, Smith was signed to a futures contract.

Very likely, Smith was a casualty of a crowded backfield in Green Bay that also includes reigning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Eddie Lacy and recently re-signed free agents James Starks and John Kuhn.

Also fighting for playing time at the position are Johnathan Franklin, DuJuan Harris, Michael Hill and any other rookies the team might add during the NFL Draft or in its aftermath.

Smith will be subject to waivers.

I think were pretty full at running back, unless some gem falls into our hands D to me is where we have needs.
