Packers Release Montgomery
The move possibly opens the door to activate either cornerback Al Harris or safety Atari Bigby from the PUP list.
The Green Bay Packers have released defensive end Michael Montgomery, general manager Ted Thompson announced on Tuesday.
Montgomery appeared in two games this season for the Packers who re-signed him back on Oct. 15, but he appeared to be a stopgap solution all along. Limited by injuries this season to Cullen Jenkins, Ryan Pickett and Mike Neal, Montgomery provided depth along the defensive line, though little else.
His release clears room for the one of the players on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, likely either cornerback Al Harris or safety Atari Bigby. However, the Packers will still have to clear room on the roster to promote both to the 53-man roster.
Running back James Starks is also on the PUP list and remains an option, although his promotion is far less likely than that of Harris or Bigby. The Packers have until Monday Nov. 8 to either promote, cut or place any of the players on injured reserve according to head coach Mike McCarthy.
Montgomery was a sixth-year player, originally a sixth-round draft choice of the Packers back in 2005.
The news of Montgomery's release lends credence to the report by Steve Wyche of NFL.com that the Packers will activate Harris and Bigby.

Montgomery was brought in much more for his Vikings knowledge than for being a body. How many plays did he run?

Yeah no big shock here, Howard Green definitely made him expendable.
Now, if the Packers don't get a good look at Dimitri Nance in this next game then they are stupid. Get the kid some touches if hes healthy and see what hes capable of.
They need to make a decision on Starks by Monday at the latest and it would be nice to know if Nance is worthy of keeping his spot or if they should just go ahead and activate Starks(for better or worse).

Underwood's snagged in some kind of cougar-slut-hooker net? if he's that dumb, what chance does he have of learning McCarthy's 180,000 page playbook ??

Underwood may develop into a solid DB. I hope we don't cut him. Cut McDonald or one of the linebackers.

McDonald, a FB.. I'd even say Jarius Wynn, except we're so damn thin at DL I think they almost have to keep him just in case another guy gets dinged up.

A 6th cornerback is more necessary than a third fullback. Keep Underwood, cut Quinn Johnson, who is inactive every week anyway.

Yea I would rather have Underwood then Johnson. Johnson is the better player, but he doesn't fit the scheme. I do think it would be funny if Starks ended up being taken off the pup before Harris or Bigby

Harris and Bigby activated subsequent to the Dallas game (one will be activated prior to the game), either Underwood, McDonald, or Johnson will be cut, and Starks to IR.

I think it was a mistake keeping McDonald to begin with, but they're not cutting him. There's a reason they kept him. They're not going to lose him now.

They can't. If I'm not mistaken, both started practicing in week 6.
So, by NFL rules, they have to be activated this week. If not, it's IR.

You are correct, they have until the day AFTER the Cowboy game. That's why there's so much speculation that it makes more sense to hold out Bigby and Harris, giving them an additional 2 weeks of 'PUP training camp' prior to their 1st game. They then have another two (2) weeks to train and get healthy.

I think Underwood is off the hook? I heard that the chicks changed their story...he was banging one of them and at the same time the other one was robbing him.
