Packers Receive Four Compensatory Picks in 2012 Draft
The Green Bay Packers received four compensatory picks, including two fourth-rounders, in the 2012 draft.

You can add four draft picks to the Green Bay Packers collection in next April's draft.
According to the Packers website, Green Bay received two fourth-round and two seventh-round selections in the 2012 NFL draft for losing Cullen Jenkins, Daryn Colledge, Brandon Jackson, Korey Hall and Jason Spitz in free agency last summer.
The two fourth-round picks come from losing Jenkins to the Philadelphia Eagles and Colledge to the Arizona Cardinals. The two sevenths are for the combination of Jackson (Cleveland Browns), Hall (New Orleans Saints) and Spitz (Jacksonville Jaguars). The four compensatory picks are the most one team can receive in a given year.
The Packers now have 12 total picks in the 2012 draft, including a seventh-round pick the team received from the New York Jets when it traded rookie guard Caleb Schlauderaff during final cut down day.
Packers GM Ted Thompson has typically stuck by the mantra of having as many picks as possible, with the thinking that the more selections you possess, the better chance you have of finding a good football player. But with this much draft capital on board for 2012, it's possible that Thompson entertains the idea of trading up at some point to acquire help on the defensive side of the ball, much like he pulled off in 2009 to acquire Clay Matthews.
Compensatory picks alone cannot be traded, the influx of new selections does give Thompson some wiggle room to deal the tradable picks.
The fourth-round picks will be No. 132 and 133 overall, while the seventh-rounders are No. 241 and 243.

Bummer it didn't ammount to a 3rd. I know that with Jenkins' contract a 4th was expected, but the formula is so unkown that at least I thought there was a chance of a 3rd.

Really doubt TT's not thinking about the near future at CB. Can't leave it all hanging on Shields and House. Expect picks at both S and CB.

Naw - Tramon improved every year until last year. I'd expect him to revert to a good, if not great player.
Sam will either get better or get hosed. He played so well in '10... we all saw the talent. IMO he'll improve. And if he doesn't, House looked like a really good prospect too.
But I do hope they get a CB with upside in the later rounds.
At S, if Nick comes back, we need a guy in the later rounds with upside. If not, we need a top pick. Hope Nick Comes back.

I have complete faith in Tramon. But he's 29. They have to account for Woodson's departure soon. Just Shields and House won't cut it.
They also have to replace Pat Lee's DB spot. Not saying they'll spend a high pick on a CB, but I do expect some pick to be on a CB.

Not in the first round. Really wish that TT would trade down from 1st and up from 3rd. There's no clear blue chip player for our perceived needs, not one that we can reach to anyway, so let's stack up on those red chippers.

Maybe. Either that or trade up about 15-20 spots and get a real difference maker at OLB... But we all know that's not likely.
And then if that OLB sux.... the whole team would suffer. I mean, look what happened to the Saints when the gave up their draft for Ricky?

Which difference maker at OLB? Honestly the only pass rushers I think are difference makers in the tone of Matthews or Miller are Coples and Melvin Ingram. Both I believe will be gone in the top 10 (unreachable).
The rest, I honestly don't see that much difference between Upshaw and McClellin, per example. All of them have glaring flaws.
The same goes for the DL. There's not a player like Dareus in there. The difference between the 2nd and 6th best DL is relatively minimal.
I just don't see a player worth moving up for, not one we can reach.
And the problem with commiting future picks, or multiple picks, is not so much if the player doesn't pan out (though it's a huge deal), it's that it's not sustainable, depth all around will suffer, which will make the team spend in FA, which will decrease the chances of re-signing it's own players...
Making a team of only 1st round picks (I know that's not the case), with the cap, is impossible for more than 1 season.

No, they'll go safety in 2nd regardless of Collins' decision.
I can see either OLB or DE in the first, depending on value. I really believe that a better DLine will improve the pass rush immediately.

I personally feel that it's going to depend on how the draft comes down, but in order that I think TT would go:
1) Mark Baron (SS)
2) OLB or DT
3) Center
of course this and a couple of bucks might buy you a cup of coffee.

chris...f.y.i...packer picks are 28,59,91,123,132,133,163,191,229,241 and 243....if my info is correct. that totals only 11. what information i have on the schlauderoff trade to the jets informs me that it was a conditional trade, and at the time, the round wasnt specified, so that isnt included in the above.

Penn State's defensive lineman Still would be an interesting prospect, but my sources indicated a lack of drive prior to this last college season. If he has found his motor, and if he is sincere, he could be a tough pick to pass up.
