Packers Re-Sign Free Agent TE Andrew Quarless

Quarless will be back in Green Bay in 2014 on what is reportedly a two-year deal.

The Green Bay Packers announced on Thursday that they've re-signed free agent tight end Andrew Quarless.

According to Pete Dougherty of the Green Bay Press-Gazette, it's a two-year deal, although the financial details have not been disclosed.

Quarless helps solidify a position in flux, considering fellow tight end Jermichael Finley is also a free agent and reportedly concluded a visit in Seattle, where there's mutual interest, per Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

In 2013, Quarless became the Packers' No. 1 option at tight end after Finley went down with a bruised spinal cord. He had a career-high 32 catches for 312 yards and two touchdowns.

It's been a long road back for Quarless since tearing multiple ligaments in his knee in early December of 2011, missing the entire 2012 season. The injury still appeared to be affecting Quarless early in 2013, possessing neither the strength nor the quickness he had prior to the incident.

Quarless looked to get better as the season went on, however, highlighted by performances in back-to-back wins against the Atlanta Falcons and Dallas Cowboys in December when he had identical stat lines: six receptions for 66 yards and a touchdown each week.

Dating back to 2010, Quarless played an increasingly larger role in the run-up to the Super Bowl after Finley's knee injury sidelined him for the remainder of the season.

Where Quarless' signing leaves the Packers in their pursuit of free agent Owen Daniels remains to be seen.

After previously visitiing with the Packers, Daniels has apparently left town without a deal, next onto a visit with the Washington Redskins, according to Adam Caplan of ESPN.

Daniels' skill set more closely resembles that of Finley as a player that can be split out wide, so perhaps an eventual signing can't be ruled out if they can agree on a price and another team doesn't offer Daniels more.

Quarless is the Packers' third player re-signed from their 2014 class of unrestricted free agents, following cornerback Sam Shields and linebacker Mike Neal. The Packers also made the Neal signing official on Thursday.

This allows the Packers to remain focused on the defense in the 1st and 2nd rd's and getting a CJF or ASJ in the 3rd or 4th rd.

Means he'll be cheap.

Nice we need a few more and I am feeling good. I think we have time to sign a few others, the rest will be filed in by who is on the roster or in the draft.

I'm hoping this guarantees a Safety pick in the first 2 rounds.

I really like this signing. I think Quarless will be a lot better next year with another year removed from his acl injury.
I really like Bostick as a #2 TE.
I would like to see them add 1 more TE in the draft, but that can be a little later now. 2nd round or later pending on who is available.

Tyler Dunne ‏@TyDunne
RT @TomSilverstein Very, very modest deal. RT @RavensInsider: Packers tight end Andrew Quarless: two years, $3 million, $350,000 guaranteed

I really like the signing now. Really good deal.

Get some big body d-linemen that can shares duties. Pick Mosley if he's there, safety 2nd round. Unless Ebron is there( doubtful). There's a lot of good players hanging around that won't break the bank who can play.
