Packers Re-Sign Francois To Practice Squad

The linebacker is signed to replace recently departed Chris Campbell on the Packers practice squad.

A little more than an hour after finding out the Green Bay Packers had released offensive lineman Chris Campbell from their practice squad, his replacement has been named.

Jason Wilde of ESPNWisconsin writes on Twitter:

Robert Francois returns to the Packers' practice squad, replacing OT Chris Campbell.

Francois is a linebacker who the Packers originally had on their practice squad entering the regular season but had been cut a week ago to make room for cornerback Josh Gordy.

Since joining the Packers last season as a member of the practice squad, Francois has practiced at both inside and outside linebacker.

Seeing as the Packers have another inside linebacker currently on their practice squad with Maurice Simpkins, it will be interesting to see if Francois practices primarily as an outside linebacker in a 3-4.

that's odd. not sure what could have changed from when they decided to release Francois instead of Cambell when they signed Gordy. The OL and LB numbers and injuries are basically the same, then and now. Hmmm... Maybe a roster LB is about to get traded?

just read Poppinga was not at practice today. this might explain the Francois move -- word is Poppinga's permanently stuck a blocker and may not show up at all this season.

Building a little linebacker depth for the trade of, say, A.J. Hawk?
